Reviewing the Peugeot e-308

Leasing a Peugeot e-308 Electric in the UK

Why aren’t there more affordable electric cars to lease?

A genuine query raised by many UK car customers, as they look to adhere to the Governmental ambitions for us be all-electric by 2035 (according to their recent publications). While manufacturers have reacted positively to the news, there has been stock and product shortages, with certain segments having little to no options available.

But the PSA group, which sits within the Stellantis organisation, is now enjoying greater economies of scale – brands include Citroen, Vauxhall, Dodge, Chrysler, Maserati – and this is enabling a more robust product suite for customers. And while the e-208 hatchback and e-2008 SUV have already settled into the market, many personal and company car drivers do need a bigger option, including an estate function. The good news is that the popular 308 has now been confirmed as a pure electric solution, which will build on the existing petrol, diesel and hybrid formats currently available.

Due to launch in early to mid-2023, the Peugeot 308 will consist of both hatchback and SW format. It is the latter derivative, the compact estate, which is an interesting addition as a customer can only enjoy the MG5 if they need an electric estate car. Families with multiple children, pets or golf clubs (and beyond) do need ergonomic EVs which are both practical yet affordable.

And Peugeot are now seen as a higher quality vehicle since their Stellantis integration, displacing the myth that the French product is unsuitable or difficult to operate. Brand confidence, particularly with batteries, is now a key part of manufacturer success. With the e-308 set to use the successful EMP2 platform, this hatch and estate will adopt a bigger battery than its 208 supermini equivalent.

What specifications are available on the new e-308?

With limited information, the suggestions are that the combustion, hybrid and pure electric will all adopt similar specifications including:

  •  Active Premium – air conditioning, electric heated and powered door mirrors, rear parking sensors, i-Cockpit, multi-function steering wheel, 16” alloys, visibility pack, LED headlights and voice recognition;
  • Allure – this adds air quality system air conditioning, front and rear parking sensors, dark tinted windows, reversing camera, interior ambient lighting, 18” alloys, connected 3D navigation, Peugeot i-Connect, high beam assistant and signature LED running lights;
  • Allure Premium – the upgraded model gets the drive assist pack (rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection), keyless entry, 18” alloys and wireless phone charging and Apple Car Play;
  •  GT – includes clean cabin technology, heated steering wheel, driver sport pack (personalised colour theme), alcantara upholstery, carpet mats, 18” alloys, full matrix LED headlights and LED 3D Peugeot lights; and
  •  GT Premium – adds drive assist pack plus (lane assist), visio pack (360 degree camera), smart electric tailgate, electric driver seats with massage, heated seats, 18” black alloys and Premium HiFi audio system.

And how does the e-308 perform – is this a good electric car?

As noted above, the PSA group are launching two models including:

  • 308 hatchback – (from £37,000) the usable 51 kWh lithium battery offers 115 kW (or 154hp), 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds and 93 mph top speeds. On range, the 308 electric should cover around 160 miles in colder weather on a full charge with warmer weather allowing for 220 miles. And does it charge quickly enough? This hatchback allows 11 kW AC max for 5 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% times with the 100kW DC rapid charge capabilities providing for 28 minute 10 – 80 minute times. The vehicle has a fuel equivalent of 151 mpg. The hatchback has a 412L cargo volume; and
  • 308 estate – (from £38,000) the usable 51 kWh lithium battery offers 115 kW (or 154hp), 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds and 93 mph top speeds. On range, the estate electric should cover around 155 miles in colder weather on a full charge with warmer weather allowing for 215 miles. And does it charge quickly enough? The SW allows 11 kW AC max for 5 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% times with the 100kW DC rapid charge capabilities providing for 28 minute 10 – 80% times. The vehicle has a fuel equivalent of 147 mpg.
