It has been no secret that one of the world’s biggest, and most luxurious, car brands would be releasing a new all-electric SUV during 2024. The Porsche group has always rumoured that their ever-popular Macan would soon be electrified and join their Taycan Saloon and Turismo EV options for the UK’s leasing customers to enjoy

Indeed, we wrote about the upcoming Macan EV launch in early January 2024, as some customers were eager to pre-order this exciting addition. But yesterday (25 January 2024), the Porsche website launched the configurator for this new prestige family SUV so that customers can build and secure their deal. “Full of energy. Full of driving pleasure” so says the German carmakers. And with this model being built on a dedicated EV platform, the VW PPE (Premium Platform Electric), the new Macan isn’t just about zero-emissions and green driving; this is about creating a vehicle architecture for the future.

Flexibility for manoeuvre, track width and ground clearance means that performance and comfort are not lost on this battery electric. And the 800-volt state of the art battery and charge management is focused on efficiencies, range and charging convenience.

With a ‘Performance rear axle’ the driving dynamics have been made a clear focus along with comfort via the Active Suspension Management and air suspension. Indeed, the new electric Macan has been recognised as one of the most streamlined SUVs on the market thanks to the Porsche Active Aerodynamics.

So what models can you choose from in the new Macan EV?

At launch (January 2024), the group have confirmed the:

• Macan 4 Electric -  from £69,800 as standard this includes 20” alloys, 8-way electric seat, heated seats, powered tailgate, LED headlights, electric folding mirrors, traffic sign recognition lane change assist, cruise control, lane keeping assist, ambient lighting, heat pump, climate control, sound package plus, Apple CarPlay and the Mode 3 Charging cable. As you would expect, Porsche is all about personalisation and bespoke, so do use their website to create your perfect option. This could include (although not limited to) a whole host of colours (which are called shades, dreams and legends), alloy upgrades, interior leather packages, 14-way electric seats, heated rear seats, body-coloured mirrors, bespoke side trims, bespoke sideblades, LED courtesy lights, panoramic roof, model designation, adaptive suspension, sport chrono package, rear axle steering, Matrix LED lights, rear wiper, privacy glass, HUD, Air Quality, Comfort Access, Adaptive cruise control, Passenger Display, Bose Surround Sound; and

• Macan Turbo Electric - from £95,000 as standard this includes 20” Black alloys, black wheel arches, 18-way adaptive sport seats, Turbo Packages (steering wheel crest, bonnet crest and climate control panel in tribonite), exterior mirrors in black high gloss, adaptive air suspension, electric sport sound, sports chrono package, power steering plus, LED Matrix lights, electric folding mirrors, carbon interior package, leather package, storage package, accent package, heated steering wheel, electric column adjustment, 2-zone climate, Porsche dashcam preparation, Bose surround and TPM valve in black. All the colours are free apart from the Legends colour palette with Turbo Macan. Consider adding - massage function on seats, LED courtesy lights, electric charging cover, tinted LED lights with Porsche logo, rear wiper, heated front windscreen, passenger display and comfort access. 

And how does the Macan electric perform … what’s the range and performance like?

•  Macan 4 Electric - this has a usable battery of 96 kWh  which offers 300kW (402hp), top speeds of 137mph and 0-62 times of 5.2 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 255 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 345 miles (on a full charge). The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 10 hour and 30 minutes with the 270kW DC enabling 10-80% in 22 minutes. The Macan has no Bidirectional charging. It has a 129 mpg equivalent, 540L cargo volume and offers towing capacities of 750kg (unbraked) and 2000kg (braked); and

•  Macan 4 Turbo - this has a usable battery of 96 kWh  which offers 470kW (630hp), top speeds of 162mph and 0-62 times of 3.3 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 255 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 340 miles (on a full charge). The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 10 hour and 30 minutes with the 270kW DC enabling 10-80% in 22minutes. The Macan has no Bidirectional charging.
