The UK EV news for September 2023 has been incredibly positive. Not only are we seeing a swathe of new models entering the market between 2023 - 2026 but in more wider news we are seeing investment by carmakers and charge point operators into UK-based manufacturing and initiatives.
And one of the key drivers in the UK’s automotive data sphere SMMT are maintaining their dogmatic approach in pushing the EV message. Only yesterday, 18 September 2023, at their SMMT Electrified platform they directed more onus on the Government to be on the offensive with EV policies, in particular to assist the retail and consumer market to ignite.
As most are probably aware, there are incredible support measures and financial incentives available to businesses, fleets and salary sacrifice schemes but not so much for the personal lease / purchasers in the UK. The group, and others, have suggested reducing Vat on EVs and reduce Vat on charging in the public domain (currently 20% unlike the 5% at home).
With the Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate due to stay in place, the push to 2030 and zero-emissions is on. And manufacturers, dealerships and finance companies are feeling the pressure. In particular, more affordable and practical car solutions need to be in place for this to entire project to work
As one of the world’s largest car producers, the Stellantis Group - with brands like Alfa Romeo, Citroen, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot and Vauxhall - have been under pressure from new competition like Fisker, Polestar and BYD to produce more cost-effective all-electric solutions.
The Peugeot brand has a strong following in the UK, with the modern 208 hatchback and 3008 SUV being two of the most-desirable cars to lease or buy. But with an electric 208 hatchback ), 2008 SUV EV and more recently a bigger 308 hatchback electric , the question was whether or not the PSA group would introduce a bigger car with better range and practicality, to compete with the growing array of competition, especially from the Chinese brands. But in September 2023, a new electric fastback SUV was confirmed for the UK’s personal and business leasing customers in the form of e-3008.
So when will the new e-3008 fastback be available? Currently set for a formal announcement in Q1 2024, customers are encouraged to register their interest as early as possible on the Peugeot website . The car should arrive at some point during 2024. So far two specification lines have been confirmed, including
Choose from 6 external colours, such as black, silver, grey, black and their unique blue. But in moving the car into the luxury segment the EV will have serene driving pleasures like connect advanced, massaging seats, driving aid technology, compact steering wheel, 3D navigation, smartphone wireless charging, FOCAL hi-fi system, Clean Cabin air quality, instinctive driving and generous passenger/boot space.
But what battery options are Peugeot offering with their electric Fastback? So far three key options are available including
Both personal and business leasing customers in the UK are now faced with a quandary on which vehicle to choose. The e-3008 will sit among a number of other good options ranging from the cheaper MG ZS, BYD ATTO 3 through to the Skoda Enyaq, VW ID.4, BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQA! And it is no longer just about budget, with customers now more acclimatised to all-electric driving, they are researching range, charging times, battery efficiency, boot space and towing. The metrics which manufacturers now have to be aware of, and satisfy, is becoming more lengthy.
