The Best MG ZS Electric Lease Deals

Is it really worth leasing the electric MG ZS as your next new company car? Circa 3 - 5 years ago the prospect of leasing, or buying, an MG may have led to some trepidation, if not irritation, for many of the UK’s company car and salary sacrifice drivers. The MG brand, which is now Chinese owned under SAIC Motor UK, has been passed around different owners having experienced some great successes and dismal failures.

But what this 1923-established motor manufacturer has proved is that EVs are a solid route for re-inventing your product and re-engaging with the UK’s fleet market. Their SUV MG ZS and the Estate MG5 have now become a fundamental cog in our electric wheel. These are now recognised as some of the best-value BEVs to lease or buy in 2022.

Is electrification really so important? The last 12 months have been incredibly challenging for any UK business involved in new car sales or leasing. The impact of COVID, microchip and parts shortages together with the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine has led to some seismic disruptions. This was somewhat telling in the SMMT May 2022 reports which showed a 20% decline  in new car registrations (just under 125,000) and a monumental 50% decline in diesel registrations.

But what is heartening is that electric vehicles (also known as BEVs, zero-emission vehicles or pure electric) accounted for 15,000+ registrations which is some 17% increase in new EV registrations. The report indicates that the ongoing incentives, media presence and continued infrastructure improvements are key to the improvements in consumer confidence. EVs are now recognised as a foremost energy choice. For more information see the - SMMT report.

Company cars are certainly the driving force behind the UK’s EV success. In the last 3 years our company car market has been very much fixed on EVs - but why? In 2020 it was confirmed that zero-emission cars, i.e. those vehicle emitting 0 g/km, would attract 0% Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) with a 1% increase in the two subsequent years. As at 2022/23 the 2% BiK will be in place until at least 2024/25.

For the first time, the UK’s fleet market has been enjoying absolutely no tax on their business car, with even this year providing some nominal tax expenditure. For many company car drivers, monthly deductions on their vehicle had been upwards of £300 - £600 per month. This means in moving to a pure electric solution, fleet drivers have saved literally thousands of pounds across the term - what an incredible move by the Government.

While sceptics suggested this was to combat the lack of vehicle choice or that EVs were unworkable, this was largely unfounded. Indeed the recent SMMT statistics are now providing otherwise. There is an ardent choice of functional EVs - from SUVs to estates to sports cars - which a company car user can enjoy. And while many early innovations were very much high-end and luxury car centric, brands like Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and MG have invested into great value options which do not push our e-car lease customers budgets too far. We are now in a position where it has to be questioned why a company car driver wouldn’t go electric, save for exceptional circumstances.

And the ZS electric SUV has been a surprise contender, with many BCH and salary sacrifice choosing this as the ideal family car. In fact, the electric ZS was the 10th  best-selling EV in 2021, with nearly 5,500 registered. In 2022, the MG group have seen such popularity, that they are announcing new franchises across the UK and with most of their allocation now sold out for the rest of this year, both the ZS and MG5 are destined to be recognised as top-sellers at the end of 2022.

The ZS is such an apt car for the UK as this is a spacious SUV which meets the demands of many of our customers with families and pets. What is the range of this electric MG? Well, as part of their product rationalisation, MG launched a new “Long Range” model to complement the “Standard Range”. In relation to the former, the usable 68 kWh battery delivers around 190 miles in colder climate and 260 miles in warmer climates based on a full charge.

The latter model still offers a modest 140 miles in colder climate and 190 miles in warmer climates . Both the Standard and Long Range can be charged at home, with their 7.4 kW AC max allowing 0 - 100% in 8 hours for the Standard Range (which has a 49 kWh battery) and 11 hours on the Long Range model. And to ensure practicality, both the MG ZS Standard and Long Range can tow up to 500kg Braked. But how much is it? With the standard SE at £27,745, the SE Long Range at £29,995 and the top-spec Trophy Connect Long Range at £34,495, these are some of the cheapest pure electric SUVs to lease or buy.
