Is this the perfect car for the CEO-Mercedes Maybach EQS SUV - The luxury EV of 2024?
Vehicle choice in the BEV segment is now unquestionable for UK leasing customers; there is simply more than enough vehicle options within each category. From hatchback to estate to SUV we have you covered.
And one of the great proponents of the electrification transition, Mercedes, have done their bit with a litany of options including the EQA (small SUV), EQB (7-seat SUV), EQE (saloon and SUV) plus the ultra-refined EQS (Saloon and SUV). It is the latter which has seen some recent additions to the product line-up with the SUV now being available in a Maybach format. Originally created in 1909, the German luxury car brand is now a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz group of companies.
Some customers may remember the 57 and 62 Maybach editions or the later S-Class and G Class editions which were transacted in the Mercedes brand. However, for 2024, Mercedes have added more options with their all-electric EQS 680 now being available in the Maybach edition.
A full-size luxury EV crossover, the EQS is clearly aimed at those customers with finer tastes and a healthy budget. Early indications are that prices will start around £200,000 for this model, with customers invited to register their interest.
For many large corporates, or successful executives, there are incredible tax incentives for moving their company car from petrol and diesel platforms into lithium-battery tech. While many CEOs and CFOs are attune to Range Rovers, just reviewing the example below - Range Rover Estate 4.4 P615 V8 SV LWB 4dr Auto [Signature Suite] - you can see that a 45% (additional rate) tax payer will be liable for the near £3,000 per month in tax alone:
And in contrast, the £200,000 EQS EV would be exposed to a more nominal £150 per month in tax as per below:
This is without taking into account the tax benefits for the company / employer, who can utilise a better Corporation Tax position with a zero-emitting car plus the ability to reclaim the full extent of any infrastructure / charge points (full expensing).
Plus any charging incurred is not treated as fuel for HMRC, so an employee can charge at the work premises for free. With many towns and cities converting to congestion zones and clean air zones, senior management moving towards electric cars, set out a positive example for the business and the rest of the workforce. And, as we will detail below, many electric cars offer performance, comfort and luxury.
As you would expect from a Maybach the level of quality and aesthetics is based on progressive designs, exquisite finish and aerodynamics. This includes the distinctive radiator grille, LED tail lights, 2-tone paintwork, 22” Maybach wheels, digital light with projection function, illuminated running boards and logo projection.
Inside you can enjoy a luxury and digital experience with Maybach ornamental elements, high-end systems, executive seats (with recline) MBUX augmented reality and HUD, premium navigation, MBUX interior assistant, pre-entry control, energizing air control, air-balance control, acoustic comfort package and decorative keys.
The AWD has a 118 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 4.4 seconds, 130 mph top speeds and 484kW (or 649hp). Expect a combined winter range of 260 miles with warmer weather allowing for 340 miles.
On charging, the 22 kW AC max will allow 6 hour and 30 mins 0 – 100% charging times with the 200 kW DC maximum allowing 33-minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 440L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 105 mpg. You can tow 750 kg (unbraked) and 1800 kg (braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities.
