VW ID.7 Tourer Electric Car Lease the latest EV Estate from Volkswagen

VW ID.7 Tourer Electric Car Lease the latest EV Estate

Everything you should know about the latest EV estate from Volkswagen - the VW ID.7 Tourer electric car lease

This month (February 2024) has been a busy one for the world of EV and taxation. New car launches, like the Porsche Macan Electric and Taycan II, the BMW i5 Touring (estate) and this ID.7 were overshadowed briefly by the HMRC and double cab pick-up situation, which consumed the automotive industry.VW ID.7 Tourer Electric Car Lease Best Deals

Before electric cars, drivers who did not want to utilise a car would sometimes be offered a company van instead. Treated differently, and more favourably for taxation, this enabled many drivers to enjoy cost-effective solutions but at the cost of comfort and experience. Instead, many drivers in key industries like building, construction, farming and engineering, would utilise a truck.

With commercial vehicle ruggedness, storage  and practicality, businesses would enjoy the same service delivery from a small van but with the style and specification of car. So long as the payload exceeded one tonne, tax treatment for capital allowances, VAT and car / BiK tax would be based on the more favourable commercial position. However, on Monday 12th February, HMRC announced that from 1 July 2024, a pick-up would indeed be classified as a car for capital allowances and BiK purposes.

Further, to some industry debate and appeal, the Government listened and made a significant U-Turn, confirming - “DCPUs will continue to be treated as goods vehicles rather than cars, and businesses and individuals can continue to benefit from its historic tax treatment.”

While the pick-up tax change could have seen more drivers move into electric vehicles almost overnight, the e-car lease team do not believe it will damper enthusiasm. Indeed, the demand for EV is very much growing, with better infrastructure and information available to the UK public.

To supplement this, we need robust product which ensures that BEV customers have vehicles which really do meet their requirements. Unlike the world of combustion there was a clear shortage of practical estate cars for company car and personal users to enjoy. Until 2023 / 2024, there really wasn’t much in the way of estate, except for the MG5 and Porsche Taycan Sport / Cross Turismo.

However, manufacturers are at least listening to the UK’s personal and business lease customers, with the promise of further options into 2024 like this ID.7 Tourer. As per their release this week (20 February 2024), the “flagship among electric Volkswagen models” is now ready for customers to order.

VW ID.7 Tourer Electric Car Lease Information

The ID.7 hatchback was launched only last year (2023) and is set to take on EVs like the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal and BMW i5. But in addition to the fastback saloon, the VW Group have created a like-for-like alternative to the ever-popular Passat. Not unlike that petrol / diesel product, this car will offer considerable practicality with 605L luggage capacity when 5 passengers are in the car.

Some 1,714L are available with just 2 passengers in the car. The use of a Tourer, rather than an estate, is a big move by Volkswagen as the avant-garde tourer is more reminiscent of the shooting brake in the Arteon as opposed to the long roof line of the Passat. But the car remains practical with the increased height in the rear. And a load area off almost 2 metres compliments this setup.

Standard equipment on the ID.7 estate is set to be extensive with the Pro set to offer LED headlights, 19” alloys, roof rials, keyless entry, 10-colour ambient lighting, enhanced augmented HUD, rear view camera system 2-zone air conditioning and heated front seats (with pressure point massage). The IDA voice assistant will be a great feature for high-mileage company car drivers who spend so long in their vehicles each day. Plus the integration of ChatGPT will allows for a truly technological and futuristic experience. The polymer-dispersed liquid crystal panoramic glass is an optional upgraded on this electric estate.

But how does the new ID.7 Tourer perform - is it a good electric car / battery?
