Will we still be leasing luxury EVs like the Porsche Macan SUV or are myths and untruths impacting our industry

Will we still be leasing luxury EVs like the Porsche Macan SUV

Are myths and untruths impacting our industry? - Will we still be leasing luxury EVs like the Porsche Macan SUV

When you are investing millions and even billions into new electric vehicles as a car manufacturer, there is some expectation that the country will be encouraging the uptake of them by the consumers and businesses in the new (or used) car market.

But in the UK, we have seen many untruths, misnomers and uncertainties created by the news and media who have continued to propagate what appears to be an anti-EV agenda. The underlying themes have targeted the misleading range statistics, lack of charge points, the cost of an EV vs a petrol/diesel car and health and safety risks (like fires).

Many newspapers have used “topical” pieces which document the writer’s own difficult experience of using an electric car, discussing the pitfalls and quandaries which these options create. But are they fair?

To be clear, the move to an EV is not perfect; by which we mean there are corresponding obligations to accompany the amazing benefits. To support this ambition, more and more businesses are unifying to help spread more accurate and usable information for helping more drivers confidently make the transition.

The SMMT, ChargeUK and Auto Trader are now working collectively to provide more information to the public domain to help correct the misleading agenda. Endorsed by the Department for Transport the “fight the electric fear” campaign will be providing more facts and data for pushing the agenda. Other organisations like Fully Charged are working with Octopus Energy to help achieve a similar aim.

Porsche Macan SUV Electric Car Lease Best Deals

While e-car have not yet joined any initiative or solution, other than our partnership with the EVA , we do support this approach in order to provide more confidence to the UK market.  For used-EV purchase and leasing, this is paramount with a swathe of options now arriving in our auctions and on car supermarket forecourts.

Where we endeavour to assist our leasing customers is with the detailed, yet simple, analysis of the EV procurement process. The main themes which our incredible EVC™ addresses includes:

  •  Range - using a balanced assessment of how the EV will perform in warmer and cooler temperatures taking into account driving behaviours and styles like motorway vs urban driving;
  •  Charging times- setting out what AC and DC charging is, while detailing how quickly (or not) the charging session will be for that vehicle. Plus identifying the maximum charging capability for ensuring you, or the business, invests in the correct charging infrastructure ;
  •  Costs to charge - setting out the typical charging sessions (from 0 - 100%) for a customer using a public charge point (rapid), domestic charge point (standard tariff) and a domestic charge point (dedicated EV tariff). This information is combined with the real world range to set out the cost per mile (for comparing against a combustion alternative);
  •  Zap Map - a free 12 month Premium subscription is offered to all of our customers for the UK’s premier charge point location service. Knowing where to charge on the public network, what it costs and how long it takes is key to managing expectations;
  •  Performance - a basic guide and translation for kW and kWh, which are commonly utilised by EV and CAP manufacturers;
  • Heat Pumps - identifying if this is present on the EV and whether it is a standard option. With heat pumps now important for enhancing winter range on the vehicle, we have deemed this as important;
  •  Towing - an analysis of if, and how much, the EV can tow; and
  •  Bidirectional Charging - setting our where the EV can offer V2L, V2G or V2H, with many customers now investing in solar technology or battery storage at home.

The luxury Porsche Macan SUV electric car lease

No car is immune from the pressure or dangers of the media, even luxury car brands like Porsche. When the new Macan finally launched into the UK in 2024, this was a hotly anticipated product which was thought to be the link between luxury, cost effectiveness and all-electric capability.

However, the all-new Macan has not yet proved to be as influential as many would have thought. With the UK now awash with great competition, like the  Lotus Eletre , Audi Q6   and Tesla Model Y, it is never a given that your product will overcome.

That is without taking into account the Government approach under Labour, electricity costs and challenges in the motor trade finance industry under the commission rules. Making things happen is undeniably tough.

However, the Porsche team are relentless in expanding and pushing this product to the UK’s personal and business markets. Options now include:

  • Macan Electric - from £68,500 this is the standard model with 265kW or 360ps;
  •  Macan 4 Electric - from £71,200 this is the standard 4WD model with 300kW or 408ps;
  •  Macan 4S Electric - from £76,900 this is a better model with 380kW or 516ps; and
  •  Macan Turbo Electric - from £96,900 this is a better model with 470kW or 639ps.
