The Alpine A290 Electric Car Lease Deal - Your Definitive Guide
The growth of new manufacturers in the EV world is not unsurprising. Where we are seeing innovation and development is with the various types / segments of vehicles being offered out to customers.
Over time, new ideas have been launched in the hatchback, SUV, coupe, convertible and estate categories, in an effort to capture an even wider market. We are experiencing some success and improvements amidst a critical time for battery technology, which needs to be bolstered by solid political efforts from the new Labour Government.
As reported in the SMMT the new car market is still growing with an admirable 24 months’ worth of consecutive rises in new car registrations. Within the 147,517 vehicles registered in July 2024, some 27,335 were purely electric, which is a positive 18.8% increase from 2023. In 2023 there were 23,010 BEVs registered. For 2024 (as a year to date figure) we have just under 195,000 new electric cars registered!
It would be no surprise that the fleet aspect of the market, which holds 59.9% of the total share, is still underpinning the EV sector with the various company car schemes, fleet programs and salary sacrifice provisions. Also heartening was the fact that electrified vehicles accounted for four in ten of the new cars registered for this month - they now have an 18.8% share of the market.
With the ZEV mandate dictating that 22% of a manufacturer’s registered product must be zero-emission, there is still some work to be done to ensure that battery vehicles are sold in volumes that are commensurate to the legislation.
Quite surprisingly a historic car modifier, Alpine, have now arrived in the electric sphere purporting to launch their Alpine A290 for the UK’s electric car enthusiasts. To be clear, the team are not creating an all-electric concept, they are modifying an existing car - the new Renault 5 e-tech - in line with their distinctive branding and designs.
“Muscular build” the A290 will see a more robust body kit and wheel designs added to make this a more aggressive form. Inspired by the rally industry, the X lights will be a fitting tribute to the iconic sport. And beyond the aesthetics, elements like the pinpoint rear axle and hydraulic bump ensure that driver experience is not hampered.
Inside the “feel at one cockpit” will ensure a true connection to the vehicle, with the Formula 1 inspired steering wheel, dual-tone Nappa Leather and a whole host of technical and aesthetic features. Elements like the Devialet Sound (9 speakers /subwoofer), smartphone integration and the Alpine telematics are nice touches. The key 4 colours to choose between include Beta, La Grise, La Bleue and Black..
One of the key aspects to this EV is its connection to motorsport. The Alpine team are applying the same logic to this as they would to any vehicle, aiming to provide comfort and agility in equal measure.
This includes the enlightening performance for the small hot hatch, the robust rapid charging capabilities, a short wheelbase with wide tracks and brake torque vectoring apparel plus the hydraulic bump and 19” rims with Michelin tyre compounds. In terms of performance, please see below:
