The Kia EV4 Electric Car Lease - Your Definitive Guide
The ZEV mandate is very much in full flow for 2025 in the UK, with the Labour Government continuing the Conservative initiative to change the types of vehicles which we drive. While Labour have proffered changing this slightly, by asking manufacturers to be zero-emission by 2030 as opposed to 2035, there has yet to be any fundamental changes to this.
In effect, the rules pertaining to the mandate are asking for an increasing amount of vehicles to be zero-emission and while this doesn’t say this needs to be electric, other facets like hydrogen (or similar) are not yet available.
For the short to medium term, cars and vans will need to be underpinned by lithium batteries, unless other eco and green modes of transport emerge. In 2025, the expectation is that 28% of the vehicles registered are zero-emission with this rising to 38% in 2027. By 2030, some 80% must be zero-emission. This is no small feat.
However, this is not being warmly received by all the trade groups, associations and manufacturers who operate in our country. The Unite union group have suggested that falls in vehicle production are an indication that the rules being implemented are not appropriate.
The concern held by the trade union is that a punitive measure on production will not help the UK to achieve the electrification ambitions. In a further publication, the ABB Robotics’ Outlook Survey suggests that there is a growing scepticism about the uptake for electric vehicle production targets.
While predictions for 2025 remain very positive, there are concerns about the UK reaching 100% EV, in-keeping with the terms of the mandate. The feedback suggests that factors outside the factory are the issue here; consumer confidence, charging infrastructure and demands for other options like PHEVs need to be considered.
Meanwhile, one manufacturer which is not taking a back step is the South-Korean manufacturer Kia. Having already released a new EV3 and EV9 in 2024, the group also re-vamped the EV6 SUV last year.
For 2025, a new product will see the Kia group compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 and Y, the Polestar 2 and the VW ID7. Their brand-new EV4 will see a hatchback and sedan (saloon) model launch in the UK around mid-2025.
Seen as “redefining sustainability and design” the EV4 is not just a car; this is the brand’s move towards true sustainability and an eco-future, with more thoughtful materials in the vehicle and more conservative production techniques. This includes bioplastics, recycled PET carpets and recycled fishing nets. Not unlike the EV9 family SUV, this vehicle represents a positive and green future.
The EV4 hatchback will include two battery options, a standard and long range plus an entry model and a GT Line .Key features include the black vertical C-pillars, 19” alloys, sharp contours and sloping rear window. The hatchback is not unlike the practical Niro EV, with more focus on ergonomics and practicality.
Some of the key features will include the 1st row relaxation seats, ambient lighting, Highway Driving Assistant 2 (autonomous driving), hand on detection, 30” ultra-wide panoramic display (made up 12.3” cluster, 12.3” driver display and 5” air conditioning panel), in-car entertainment and Kia AI assistant.
The EV4 saloon / sedan, will also make a bold impression with the new Tiger Face, vertical headlamps, star map lighting and sporty-stance with the high technology surround. The saloon is more akin to the EV6, with a focus on enhanced and premium looks including the 2-piece spoiler, 19” machined alloys and redefined feel.
