The luxury Audi Q6 Electric Car Lease - Your Definitive Guide
Trying to be the number 1 electric car manufacturer is a competitive business. Until 2024 / 2025, the “Tesla” name was synonymous with quality, practicality and value in the battery world, with Elon Musk’s group being recognised as the UK’s leading brand. Indeed, for many years the Tesla group have been highlighted as a world leader for anything BEV (in the car market).
While Mr Musk has taken to a life of politics in the USA, which has brought with it popularity coupled with a smattering of notoriety, other brands have re-ignited their zero-emission offering and are using more positive news stories to sell their various products. As reported in the BBC the BYD group have now reported revenues which are in excess of the Tesla brand.
The Chinese automotive conglomerate, BYD Auto, are pushing their cars, SUVs, pickups, taxis, commercial vehicles, trucks and buses to countries all around the world. Indeed, their blade battery, a lithium ion phosphate construction, was hot in the press last week as it has proved to be chargeable at nearly 1000kW.
As a vertical company, producing its own components and batteries, the BYD brand is proving to be one of the most reliable and trusted all-electric car manufacturers. Indeed, the BBC article reflects on the BYD consistency in the market, with a series of new cars set to rival Tesla including a lower-priced Model 3 rival. With China facing more economic uncertainty, including a property crisis and slowing growth, the BYD group are creating more accessible and affordable EVs.
This is precisely what less mature markets like the UK need, so further cost-effective cars will be nothing other than welcome. In addition, the BYD team did also receive further investment from veteran Warren Buffet, adding credence to their project.
However, it isn’t just the BYD team who are now encroaching on the Tesla dominancy. As reported in Reuters the European market is starting to see more product diversification, with BMW and the VW group now starting to assert their EV options. In February 2025, the Tesla brand experienced a 44% reduction in sales compared to 2024, with its lowest market share in the last 5 years.
In contrast, the VW Group are experiencing an upturn in EV sales a reported 180% increase compared to last year. For VW some 20,000 vehicles were registered, with the BMW and Mini group also recording 19,000 registrations. Unsurprisingly, the BYD group reported a considerable upturn, in a European market which is experiencing a 25% increase in BEV sales.
Where the VW group are particularly unique is with their product suite; they can utilise Audi, VW, Cupra, Skoda and Porsche to launch an array of products. From small hatchbacks like the upcoming ID.EVERY1, ID.3 and Born to small SUVs like the Elroq and more robust family cars like the Enyaq and ID.7, the team are quickly amassing cars in every segment.
Audi, one of the foremost luxury brands is also playing its part in the move to becoming the world’s leading electric supplier. With its own host of choices like the Q4 SUV, A6 Saloon and Avant plus the performance e-Tron GT, the UK’s company car market is truly blessed with practicality and performance.
