The Mercedes CLA Electric Car Lease - Your Definitive Guide
As we have been touching on recently, there are a number of divisive views when it comes to the ZEV Mandate, which is the defining political and legal tool for EVs. As reported in the Guardian it is this aspect which is still causing concern for many motor manufacturers and car dealerships. Indeed, there is a recognition that in 2025, we must achieve a 28% zero-emission status within our new car economy or brands will face penalties of up to £15,000 per non-compliant registration.
This is serious business. Achieving these goals is not an easy task, with the report underpinning the thoughts that more is required from the UK Government to help make this a reality or for the ZEV Mandate to be “revisited” There have always been some concerns about moving electric, since mass-adoption kicked in around 2020; cost, charging infrastructure, charging costs, insurance, product availability and range. It is the latter one which many brands have worked hard on to remove as a reason to transition into all-electric motoring.
While the Guardian article lists a number of elements which need addressing, one of the purported issues is that the EV market may become reliant on existing customers i.e. many new EVs are bought by existing EV customers. Perhaps the historic concerns, like range, are still more prevalent than we think.
There are still some customers, both retail and fleet, who express a reticence in moving into battery technology on the basis that the vehicle will not be suitable for their driving, especially if they have more high-mileage requirements. So, it is not entirely surprising when you see automotive brands push their technology to the limits.
The recent announcement (14 March 2025) that Mercedes is bringing a truly range-topping vehicle to the UK market is clear evidence of this. The popular CLA, which is a big seller in petrol and PHEV format, is about to get an electric overhaul. With the tagline “made for long-drives”, it is clear that Mercedes is dispelling the myth that the modern BEV cannot be a practical option for those drivers with bigger mileage commitments.
A class of its own, the new CLA embodies what we love about the Mercedes branding. With athletic design, sleek curves and distinguished aesthetics, this electrified CLA is going to be a game-changer in 2025.
As the images show, from later 2025 (Quarter 4), the EV will even have the iconic MBIX Superscreen, which is the digital screen flowing across from the driver to the passenger. The CLA will include the shark-nose front, 19” aerodynamic alloys, seamless door handles, rear diffuser, LED rear lights, illuminated star patterns, LED multibeam headlights, sporty seats, MB.OS operating system (with chip-cloud architecture), MBUX assistant and Burmester sound systems.
But as we will touch on below, this will be the first Mercedes to be built on the Modular Architecture. This system includes the two-gear Electric Drive Unity and the 800V system. In summary, there is significantly enhanced energy consumption along with expedient charging capabilities.
As per below there are 2 configurations including:
