While the latest EV from the DS team might sound like the latest perfume from Chanel, their intention to create a luxury crossover EV is palpable. An off-shoot from the Citroen brand, the DS team are renowned for providing more detail, finish and style to many of their vehicles.
While DS have only created a DS3 electric so far, their twin brand, Citroen, have been busy creating all-electric options from the mini city car AMI to the Berlingo EV van to the C4 X crossover. So it is not altogether a surprise that DS are now following up with one of their own - “luxurious and innovative, with a high level of comfort and refinement” so says the CEO of the DS Automobiles team. Originally referred to as the Aero Sport Lounge concept (back in 2020), the new all-electric crossover is heading to the UK for mid-2025.
The DS N°8 will add some incredible features with front and back aerodynamic lines for ease of air, active air flaps on the front, flush door handles, DS pixelvision to adjust lighting based on your conditions, high beam with extending range, night vision in the grille for detecting pedestrians and animals up to 300 metres away, spacious interior with ergonomic curves, x-format steering wheel.
Nappa leather, large central screen (16”) with a slim and airy look, heated steering wheel, neck warmer, heated and ventilated seats, panoramic glass roof, 14-speaker system with 690W amplifier, 3D sound, drive assist 2.0 for semi-autonomous driving, Active Scan Suspension, predicative cruise control, digital rear-view mirror, Iris infotainment system, 3 year subscription to Connect Plus Pack for real-time traffic and map updates. Cars like the DS N°8 will be on the wish-list for many business owners of successful aesthetics companies. If you are engaged in dermal fillers, skin boosters, anti-wrinkle therapy, botox, cosmetics surgery and lip artistry and you are operating as a limited company, your accountants may well be speaking to you about tax efficiencies and the vehicles within your fleet.
The bigger your business becomes, the more Corporation Tax you pay on your profits. As this rate has increased to 25% by HMRC, you need to prepare for this and cash-flow it effectively. You also need to effectively manage this by engaging in tax-efficient strategies, such as your vehicle choice. It is unequivocal that an electric car will offer great tax-savings to the business and the director, or employee, in your cosmetic enterprise.
From 100% write-down allowances on a purchase (cash, hire purchase and contract purchase) to 100% allowance for any rentals in a lease (contract hire and finance lease), the tax savings are apparent.
For the driver, the low rate of BiK (benefit in kind) translates to some very low company car tax exposure compared to a petrol or diesel car. And we do mean hundreds of pounds per month in personal tax savings. You need to work as hard on your numbers as you do on your advanced skincare!
However, one of the key areas of savings often promoted with EVs is in the charging costs. The petrol/diesel vs electric, is a common debate when it comes to fuel analysis. More often than not, you are told that charging your EV can be a done for as little as “£x” but without the proper qualification or explanation.
What is important is to understand some important facets, namely the size of the battery (shown in kWh) and the cost of the charging (shown as pence per kWh). While a larger battery often means better range and performance, this does necessitate greater charging.
And for charging, you need to compare the various avenues you can undertake such as a dedicated home EV tariff (which is around 10 pence per kWh), a standard domestic tariff (currently 24.5 pence per kWh) and public charging on a rapid charger (as much as 80 pence per kWh). This is why our “living with your …” and the EVC™ documents we supply our customers are so key; they show you the exact cost to take your EV from 0 - 100% on the different charging faculties in the UK.
If you have a charge point at home, or at your business, ensure you check the underlying charges. Whether you are paying personally or through your cosmetics business, you need to appreciate the overall cost of fuel on your EV to ensure this is the best possible value for the company.
Where many customers go wrong, is that they do not properly research the different charging solutions available at home, work or in the public domain. Each of these will offer a slightly differing speed of charge, in AC or DC, and will each have different costs attributed them.
What we do suggest to small and medium business owners who own their premises is to investigate a charge point solution at their place of business. Not only is the charge point tax deductible under full expensing (capital allowances) but the cost of the charging session can be paid for by the company. This is without any personal tax implications to the driver / employee.
