The new Fiat Grande Panda Electric Car Lease-Your Definitive Guide
Moving the UK to an all-electric platform by 2035 necessitates functional, and affordable, solutions. Much of what has been produced since mass-adoption in 2020 has been very company car specific, with list prices of £40,000 and beyond.
As we proceed through 2024, much of the conjecture through the media has referred to this perceived issue. But product is now very much changing, with brands like Fiat bringing new solutions to the UK leasing market. Reinvigorating an existing favourite, the group will be launching the Panda to the UK in a pure electric format.
A B-segment vehicle which is now centred on “compact volume” for families to utilise, the new Grande Panda will form part of a revised Global line-up for BEV transportation. As Fiat now sit under the Stellantis group, they have access to more considered economies of scale.
For example, the eagle-eyed among you may notice the vehicle’s similarity to the recently released Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross. With value and affordability now a key metric in the retail and consumer market, this couldn’t be arriving at a more opportune time. With over 100 years of history, Fiat are now ready to enter the modern world of lithium-ion batteries building upon their existing Fiat 500e.
Information is still a little vague on the new Panda EV. However, the Fiat manufacturer website does have some indication on what customers can expect.
Key features include the “reinvented” charging cable (which is stored more ergonomically), Pixel LED lights, 17” diamond-cut alloys and an unexpected C-Pillar with 4 stripes. Inside, the interior will benefit from recycled materials, with real bamboo fibres. An “upper glovebox” will help build 13 litres of internal storage, as well as driver-focused tech like the 10.25” display, wireless charging, front parking sensors and rear parking camera.
As per below, this will perform as follows:
And for low-mileage leasing customers, especially those who are personal / retail, this small family car option could be perfect. Where EVs really hold their own is with the city / urban style driving and for those with the smaller journeys.
Many years ago, the British public was sold the idea that diesel vehicles were much the way forwards based on their CO2 and fuel economy. However, because of the emissions that they produce, many are fitted with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) which need to reach a higher temperature in order to work properly.
For shorter and slower commutes, this is not always possible and as a result these can become clogged. A litany of legal action fundamentally changed how we are sold to, and what we sold, but it did at least highlight the importance of selling vehicles more correctly.
Where EVs really shine is with the shorter journeys, especially when there is a lot of traffic and more stagnant driving. As the e-car lease website sets out, “City” driving will produce a more generous range than “Highway” driving.
This is even more relevant when you take into account the external temperatures, which does have a significant impact on the vehicle’s range. But EVs do thrive in the urban environments where the vehicle will rarely go beyond 30 or 40mph.
Warm weather driving in these city conditions can be twice as good for the range compared to colder climates on a motorway. And because smaller battery vehicles, like the upcoming Panda, weigh less and provide a more efficient experience, customers will also enjoy cheaper running costs when comparing this to petrol and diesel alternatives.
Since you can now enjoy dedicated charging tariffs, which enable cheaper overnight charging, the cost per mile (taking into account the smaller commute) will be much cheaper. Throw in the less frequent servicing obligations, and lower costs, and you start to build a positive future for this energy source
