April has been awash with brand-new electric cars which are set to go on sale in the UK for 2023 or 2024; it has been one of the busiest months for new EV announcements which the team at e-car have ever known. And when a highly-respected, and well known manufacturer, like Maserati throws another option into the mix, it speaks volumes about the future of our fleet electrification.
Just wait until Ferrari and Lamborghini throw their all-electric options into the mix, and then we will have a full suite of zero-emission vehicles across the board. But it doesn’t mean that by having battery technology makes a product an instant success or an easy endeavour for any manufacturer. Time, effort, and engineering (along with some good marketing and appropriate price points) ensure success with British EV drivers.
You only have to take note of the cars which compare against the Grecale Folgore - the BMW iX, the Audi SQ8 e-tron, the Mercedes EQE and the Mercedes EQS SUV - and you quickly understand that there is an array of robust alternatives. If Maserati are to be successful in this segment, then the product will have to deliver a wholly positive and enjoyable experience.
According to their website the Grecale Folgore will be “irresistible, pure Maserati” and “Everyday Exceptional experience”. Customers can expect ad-hoc seating material which is made from Econyl, a sustainable but luxury material.
This 4x4 promises innovation and tech, with completely connected services like Alexa and charging. Externally, the car mirrors much of the aesthetics of the existing combustion engine version (which only went into production in 2022 for a 2023 launch).
The aim of the Grecale was to offer a luxury crossover which is smaller than their current SUV option - the Levante. While there may be some subtle external changes for the EV version, if the specification levels are replicated expect these to include the following options below:
So if the all-electric version does replicate the above, expect price ranges of around £100,000 - £150,000. What this means for leasing prices are monthly rentals of anywhere between £1000 - £2000, according to term, annual mileage and initial rental.
But it’s fair to say that this executive SUV will sit firmly in the luxury aspect of our industry. And with contract hire, our foremost finance product, the great thing is that you never own the car as this is a usership product - there is never a risk to you or your business if the market is not favourable to the new Maserati. Simply select the term (2, 3 or 4 years) and return the EV at contract end. So not only is this a tax-efficient and cash-flow efficient finance product but it offsets any risks or concerns which you are likely to have.
While we understand that purchase style products, like Hire Purchase and Contract Purchase / Lease Purchase offer some incredible tax advantages to companies (plus some consumers just like to “own something”), the nature of EVs has made some UK customers more unsettled about this prospect. Hence, leasing an EV really is the way forward.
You can already register your interest for the 1st edition- but expect this electric SUV to go on sale late 2023 / early 2024. We envisage the first UK deliveries to happen March 2024 onwards. With the usual parts shortages and delays, if this is your next electric car, you do need to place a deposit as early as possible.
To be clear, the car will use a dual-motor setup and not the tri-motor setup which they have hinted in their upcoming GranTurismo Folgore. The usable 95 kWh lithium-ion battery will offer 0 – 62 times of 4.1 seconds, 137 mph top speeds and 410 kW (or 550hp). And the drivetrain will be AWD. Expect a combined winter range of 215 miles with warmer weather allowing for 280 miles on a full charge. On charging, the 22 kW AC max will allow 5 hour and 15 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 150 kW DC maximum allowing 38 minute 10 – 80% times. This car has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 106 mpg and a cargo volume of 535L.
