For many EV manufacturers, they are now on their 2nd and 3rd revisions, which is amazing when you consider that some only launched their product some 3 - 5 years ago.

Compared to petrol and diesel cars, which rarely undergo much change save for small aesthetic adjustments or technological upgrades, it’s clear that motivation and momentum for EVs is so much more considered. Indeed, the electric-only brand Polestar, which arrived in the UK as a more European alternative to Tesla, has been almost non-stop on its commitment to vehicle upgrades and improvements.

Considering this Fastback 2 model was launched in 2019, it is truly impressive that Volvo and Gheely have continued to progress the product with an almost concerted abandonment. But why not? Even at 2023, a mature electric car leasing market is still asking questions about range, charging times, performance and aesthetics. The bar for producing a good EV is actually higher than what we apply to a petrol or diesel one. But for customers, this only produces good results.

Which Polestar 2 option should I or the business choose?

In January 2023, the latest revision was formerly announced to the public, with the “2024 facelift” being confirmed for production. In addition, a BST special edition was announced, which will see a 470hp racing model form part of the brand’s offering. So for our e-car lease customers looking for a personal or business arrangement, they will have the following choices:

•  Standard Range Single Motor - The RWD has a 67 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 6.4 seconds, 127 mph top speeds and 200 kW (or 268hp). Expect a combined winter range of 200 miles with warmer weather allowing for 270 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 7 hour and 15 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 135 kW DC maximum allowing 35-minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 405L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 142 mpg. You can tow 750 kg (unbraked) and 1500 kg (braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities;
•  Long Range Single Motor - The RWD has a 79 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 6.2 seconds, 127 mph top speeds and 220 kW (or 295hp). Expect a combined winter range of 230 miles with warmer weather allowing for 315 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 205 kW DC maximum allowing 28-minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 405L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 141 mpg. You can tow 750 kg (unbraked) and 1500 kg (braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities;
•  Long Range Dual Motor - The AWD has a 79 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 4.5 seconds, 127 mph top speeds and 310 kW (or 416hp). Expect a combined winter range of 220 miles with warmer weather allowing for 300 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 205 kW DC maximum allowing 28-minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 405L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 136 mpg. You can tow 750 kg (unbraked) and 1500 kg (braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities; and

• Long Range Performance - The AWD has a 79 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 4.2 seconds, 127 mph top speeds and 350 kW (or 469hp). Expect a combined winter range of 215 miles with warmer weather allowing for 295 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 205 kW DC maximum allowing 28-minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 405L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 131 mpg. You can tow 750 kg (unbraked) and 1500 kg (braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities.

The standard options include avant-garde designs, 19” alloys, embossed textile seats, rain sensors, electric tailgate, semi-electric front seats with lumbar support, front/rear parking assist, rear view camera, 360 degree camera, Apple CarPlay and Google Maps, 11.5” centre display, DAB, Bluetooth.

Blind Spot Information, LED headlights, climate control, heated front seats, preconditioning, cruise control and alarm with motion sensors. The specification across the battery options are largely the same except for the battery configuration and price. For example:

•  Standard Range Single Motor - as at August 2023 this starts from £37,468 (and can be delivered in December 2023);
•  Long Range Single Motor - as at August 2023 this starts from £40,801 (and can be delivered in October 2023);
•  Long Range Dual Motor - as at August 2023 this starts from £44,134 (and can be delivered in October 2023); and
•  Long Range Dual Motor with Performance - as at August 2023 this starts from £48,301 (and can be delivered in October 2023).

•  Performance - available ONLY as a feature on the Long Range Dual Motor, this upgrades the car to 350 kW and adds features like 20” 4-Multi spoke black polished forged wheels with performance summer tyres, Gold Brembo four piston aluminium front calipers, Drilled ventilated front discs, Öhlins Dual Flow Valve adjustable shock absorbers, Polestar Engineered performance chassis, Gold valve caps  and Gold seat belts front and rear.

Apart from that, you can only add a towbar for £917 which is a semi-electric option with a 13-pin connection.
