The New Skoda Elroq electric car lease - Your definitive guide
The news and media are telling you that we can’t go electric. We shouldn’t go electric. Electric is dead. As we commented on earlier this week, there are a swathe of “lifestyle journalism” pieces making their way onto some of our favourite websites.
These diary-style approaches, suggest that using an EV in the day-to-day life of a UK citizen is a difficult endeavour. Indeed, there is an underlying suggestion that the move to the all-electric obligations under the ZEV Mandate is not a sage action from the Labour Government.
However, month to month, the statistics for car sales are not telling the same story. For September 2024, the SMMT published its updated figures for UK performance in the “74” plate month. A record 58,387 BEVs were registered which essentially translates as a 20.4% market share compared to petrol and diesel etc. For the year to date figures, the electric product is now at 269,000 units, which is some 30,000 more than the same period in 2023. And even Tesla enjoyed some apparent success, with nearly 6,000 registrations for September 2024.
But it is not just the EV registrations which have been so fruitful. The charging infrastructure has also continued to increase, with our partners over at Zap Map kindly setting this out for public consumption. As at September 2024, there are some 70,434 devices in nearly 36,000 locations.
Some 2,161 new devices were installed in September alone with 83 rapid (50kW+) and 179 ultra-rapid (150kW+). For the local North-West customers there are now some 5,000 devices available. To push beyond the 70,000 represents a 41% year on year increase, so to say that the UK is not fit to go electric on the infrastructure element, is not in itself a correct or accurate statement.
What also needs to be added is that many customers do have off-street parking and charge point facilities at home or work. While energy prices have been under scrutiny, there are a litany of overnight and dedicated EV tariffs which are making the running costs of your vehicle much more affordable. Indeed, with the correct tariff it is unequivocal that electricity is cheaper than petrol or diesel. When you add in renewable energies, like solar, to the mix, then the “free fuel” does really quantify the argument.
Supplementing the success of the EV movement does necessitate good product from our manufacturers. The Skoda group, with its Enyaq, have been popular in both the personal and company car markets.
However, the introduction of a smaller SUV, the new Skoda Elroq, is very much a welcome addition to the market. The new Elroq is seen as a car which can do it all, with a fresh modern design based on minimal and clean designs coupled with an interior which “sparks your spirit”.
Sustainability and tech are key features of the new Skoda, with a Digital Cockpit and large central display for the driver and passenger. The generous luggage space and Simply Clever features ensure that there are some 470L of space for luggage with all the 5 passenger seats. The 60/40 facility will increase this to nearly 1600L.
The Elroq will launch in the SE 50 and Edition 85 initially but an SEL and Sportline model will follow. In terms of the battery capacity, please see below:
