The VW ID.EVERY 1 Electric Car Lease - Your Definitive Guide
A small critique of the UK’s electric car industry has been the cost for new vehicles. Back when mass-adoption began in 2020 / 2021, the focus for many automotive brands was the company car market, which really does benefit from the zero-emission status.
If you run a business (limited company) it really is a no-brainer to go electric, with the tax savings to both the employer and employee clearly palpable. However, £40,000+ EVs are only so useful in the retail and consumer market, with some drivers feeling that the jump to electric would cost them personally compared to a petrol or diesel option.
While more affordable and cost-effective solutions are coming in the used-EV leasing market the new car industry is only just catching up with the thoughts and feelings of many in the UK community. When you throw in other challenges and obstacles, like lack of public charging, this doesn’t exactly create an ambient market to encourage the UK to go green in 2025 and beyond!
However, good news stories in the press and media concerning charge points, are proving to help sway perceptions of battery technology. Over the weekend, the BBC reported on “the largest and most-advanced” charging station in the UK - the InstaVolt hub in Winchester.
As you will note, this is an amazing site consisting of 44 ultra-rapid charging bays, fully accessible for all drivers and 100% of the energy is based on renewable energy via solar panels and wind turbines. Not to make a driver’s life difficult, all of the points are contactless.
This means you don’t have to sign-up on any apps or 3rd party payment systems; simply tap your debit or credit card and charge. Facilities like this, in busy areas of the UK, are key to building consumer confidence in BEVs. Perceptions do matter and where many of us specialists find it difficult, is in unravelling the various concerns and problems which are disseminated via the media and press. Not all of the information out there in the public domain is genuine or valid. Sometimes having the small wins and positive stories, like another super-hub for charging your EV, is incredibly useful.
To help businesses and individuals move into an electric car affordably, the Volkswagen group have turned their attention to the small car market. A new entry-level option is coming to the UK - the ID.EVERY1 - which is aiming to dispel the myth that electric cars are out of reach for everyone.
Combining functionality with style, the new city-car will offer a practical spaciousness but with charismatic definition and character. Building upon beloved and iconic vehicles like the Beetle and original golf, the German engineering team are adding the “secret sauce” which makes the litany of vehicles they sell so likeable and stable. It isn’t just style and design which is going to make this vehicle special; the new modular electric drive platform (MEB) will underpin the ID.1 coupled with powerful software and technological architecture to make this a lifelong asset.
The key point is the price-point. The brand has already acknowledged that the UK and Europe need more affordable and cost-effective motoring solutions for personal and business users. Starting from £20,000 / 20,000 euros, this officially is set to go on sale in 2027.
However, the £25,000 / 25,000 euros ID.2 will launch slightly earlier in 2026, as both models will be the urban car family FWD segment. Even though this is a small car, expect top speeds of 130km / 80mph via the 70kW (95ps) motor. Early suggestions are a range of circa 150 miles on a full charge.
And the secret sauce? One of the key aspects is the flying roof concept, which is the lowering of the roof centre without impacting on internal space. Add to that 3 other unique options including - 1) a 3rd brake light in the central recess of the lowered roof to increase visibility 2) an extending roof end strip to enhance aerodynamics and aesthetics 3) 10” high gloss black alloys. Bright and bold this “little drop of magic” could be the antidote to the proposition that all-electric driving will never become affordable in the UK.
Competition is already well underway for the VW Group. While their robust VW ID range, Skoda Elroq and Enyaq plus their Cupra Born and Tavascan make this team one of the most comprehensive for battery technology, there are other automotive conglomerates taking similar action. For 2025, the UK leasing customer is blessed with several sub-£25,000 options including:
To suggest that all EVs are unaffordable is a fallacy, with the last 12 - 18 months really reflecting a change in the types of cars being engineered and sold. Performance and luxury transport will still continue, especially with the incredible tax treatment for businesses and companies to enjoy, but the future of mass-adoptions cannot rely on these vehicles. With a brand, effectively known as the “car of the people”, by adding their weight to affordability, the transition to electric now has a big ally.
