Leasing an Abarth 500e Electric in the UK

“Limited Edition, Endless Fun” says the Abarth website about their latest all-electric small hatch – the Scorpionissima. The electric car industry has certainly undergone some significant changes in the last few years, with 2022 witnessing the introduction of serval new vehicles and confirmation that many more will arrive in 2023.

The “there isn’t enough choice of EVs” argument no longer holds any weight whatsoever. And it isn’t just SUV, luxury cars and performance models which are on offer to UK lease customers; smaller and more affordable city-car solutions are in production with the likes of the GWM ORA Funky Cat, VW e-UP!, Smart EQ and Fiat 500e to name but a few.

But the Italian racing and performance brand Abarth, which is a Stellantis-owned part of Fiat, has added yet another to the mix with effectively a hot-hatch alternative to the Fiat 500e.

Is there a market for electric performance / sports cars?

The initial focus and growth of BEVs has been more about sustainability, clean air, environmental considerations and a more robust automotive future.

The notion of speed, excitement and driving experience just wasn’t a focus early into the electrification journey. Indeed, the Tesla Model 3 Performance can be credited as a major influence in a shift towards this segment with the blistering 0 – 62 times truly showcasing what can be achieved by EVs; it’s possible to achieve lower fuel costs, better environmental footprints while still actually enjoying your driving experience.

And why shouldn’t hatchbacks and city-car options, like the Abarth 500e, be given the same treatment? The next generation of younger-drivers will be utilising batteries over combustion engines, so let’s help them to enjoy the process.

So, what do you get with the Scorpionissima?

While it is based on the Fiat 500 platform, UK customers will notice some nice improvements and additions on this £36,000+ model including exclusive driving modes (Turismo, Scorpion Street and Track), an external sound generator for mimicking the classic Abarth roar.

360 degree drone view sensors including a rear camera, a 10.25” screen, 7” digital cluster, 18” alloys, alcantara embossed dashboard, new bumper and side skirts, bucket sheets, new frontal light signature with illuminated Abarth sign, 3-spoke sporty steering wheel, JBL audio, sporty metallic pedals, Apple CarPlay, ADAD system (autonomous braking, lane keeping assist, traffic sign detection, urban blind spot and cruise control).

And how does the Abarth 500e perform – is it fast? What is the range?

With a 37.3 kWh lithium-ion battery this will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.0 seconds, 96 mph top speeds and 113 kW (or 152hp). Expect a combined winter range of 115 miles with warmer weather allowing for 160 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 4 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the moderate 85 kW DC maximum allowing 25 minute 10 – 80% times.

Ready to order your Abarth EV?

The new model should be arriving around March 2023 for the UK’s personal and business leasing customers; the Abarth website  states that “commercialization is expected for February 2023.” For the enthusiastic among you, register your details with the Abarth team so that you can place your order asap, as a limited amount of units will be made available.

Should you, or the company, buy or lease? A common, and sometimes difficult question to answer, which is ultimately determined by your needs and requirements. Use your local Abarth centre for a HP or PCP funding product and compare this against the e-car lease contract hire and finance lease options for complete certainty.

For the more diligent electric car customer, use our dedicated “living with your ...”  tools which are available on each model, so that you have all the key details on range, charging times, charging costs and beyond. How much is an Abarth 500e Electric to lease?
The special edition will arrive to the UK at around £36,000, so this will not be the cheapest EV on the market. Expect leasing deals to be around £325 - £475 per month, mileage, term and initial rental / deposit dependent. As more variants are introduced, we may see some slightly cheaper options to utilise

Is an Abarth 500e a good car to lease?
The starting point is probably to ask how good is the Fiat 500e (as this is effectively the same car plus some aesthetic touches). The UK’s automotive media in the UK have been somewhat pleasant with CarWoW at 7/10. WhatCar? At 4/5 and Parkers at 4.2/5. As these publications have identified, the Abarth is essentially a faster and more exciting version of this, with sublime performance and bolder aesthetics. The 11 kW AC and 85 kW DC also ensure a robust charging experience too. The only point to note is the reduced range of the Abarth vs the Fiat, as this compromised in favour of performance.

Is an Abarth 500e Electric lease right for me or the business?
It looks great, it drives great and it’s affordable. All of these are important to EV customers but those alone are not enough to ensure that this product, both the car and the finance, are suitable for the long-term needs of an e-car lease customer. This is why our dedicated and expert website uses a “living with your ...” tool on each car to explain the range, charging speeds, full charge costs and company car tax in every instance. The overall lifestyle does need to be considered based on your domestic or workplace infrastructure, as there are drawbacks / cons to operating this type of vehicle. And the nuances of contract hire and leasing, which is a usership product, also need reflection as this may not always be suitable for your needs and requirements.

Where do I find the best Abarth 500e Electric lease deals in the UK?
At the present (November 2022) there are still only limited offers on this new car. Our best special offers can be reviewed at. Expect early 2023 for our aggregator partners, AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, Moneyshake, LeaseFetcher or LeaseLoco to highlight other deals too. If you need a more personal and face to face experience, visit your Abarth retailer to procure a PCP or HP quotation if you need to compare lease vs buy.

What is the cheapest Abarth 500e Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (November 2022) the only option to lease is the Abarth 500e 113kW 42kWh 3dr Auto Scorpionissima at £36,000.

What is the range of an Abarth 500e Scorpionissima Electric?
As a small car / EV, this is likely to be popular for low mileage leasing customers and younger drivers. To ensure you, or the fleet team, get accurate information, just our range guide on each car. The Abarth EV should offer a range (on a full charge) of 95 miles on a motorway in colder weather, with this increasing to 140 miles for urban driving. In warmer weather, this increases to 125 miles on a motorway and 210 miles city driving. Driving style and behaviours does influence range!
