Leasing an Alpine A290 Electric in the UK

The era of hot hatch in the electric car market is here. The Renault 5 E-tech was really the first “iconic” option to launch in 2025, although similar models like the Cupra Born, VW ID3 and the MG4 may allege that they were equally influential in this sector. However, the media momentum and support the Renault has received is unlike anything the UK has witnessed. So, for the Alpine brand to launch a modified version, the A290, is very much part of riding the crest of this wave.

“Performance runs in our veins” so says the irresistible Alpine group. The team behind this new car are trying to bring in a new era of vehicles with a sporty, and urban, hatchback.

Aesthetically the A290 speaks for itself with a muscular bodywork akin to the Renault Clio Williams (from the 1990s), precision steering and rear-axle. Double-X logo embedded in the lights and a “feel at one” driver cockpit which is influenced by Formula One.

Other performance features will include the F1 steering wheel, Overtake Button, Alpine-tuned motors, 19” rims, sport-tuned chassis and augmented driving with the latest technology and driver comfort features.

The A290 EV will be launching in four specifications including:

  •  GT – the entry model will have 19” Iconic alloys, harmony interior, connected media with a 10.1” screen, intelligent adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, rear view camera and rear/side parking assistance;
  •  GT Premium – this model includes nappa leather, high fidelity audio system, two tone black roof and Brembo front brake callipers;
  • GT Performance – this option adds alpine black monograms, black emblem on the fenders, Brembo brake callipers (in red), Michelin 5S tyres and telematics premium; and
  •  GTS – enjoy all of the above plus the 19” Snowflake alloys.

Colour choices include Deep Black, Nival White, Alpine Vision Blue and Tornado Grey. There will be 5 choices of 19” alloys.

But how does the electric Alpine A290 perform?

Two electric motor configurations will feature including:

  • 180HP - with a usable battery of 52 kWh which offers 130kW (174hp), top speeds of 99 mph and 0-62 times of 7.4 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined  160 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 220 miles (on a full charge) - 190 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 5 hour and 45 minutes with the 100 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 33 minutes. The A290 has Bidirectional charging – V2L via a 3.7kW AC Type 2 Adapter and V2H and V2G announced. It has a 148 mpg equivalent, 326L cargo volume and offers towing capacities of 500kg. The Heat Pump is standard; and
  •  220HP - with a usable battery of 52 kWh which offers 160kW (215hp), top speeds of 106 mph and 0-62 times of 6.4 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 155 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 215 miles (on a full charge) - 185 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 5 hour and 45 minutes with the 100 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 33 minutes.
