Leasing a BYD Seal in the UK

One of the UK’s biggest, and most marketed, EV brands in 2023 has been the illustrious BYD. While many customers have been asking about this somewhat unknown brand, the Build Your Dreams Chinese manufacturer has been busy producing cars, buses, trucks and warehouse machinery in battery format all around the world.

Indeed, BYD Auto has its own battery division – FinDreams – which is the 3rd biggest in the world. And to demonstrate their serious approach, the BYD team are bringing a new option to the UK to supplement the Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin hatchback, in the form of the SEAL.
The family saloon SEAL has been built on the e-Platform 3.0, a modular platform which is specially designed for pure electric vehicles (also known as PEVs or BEVs). The new saloon will enjoy the cutting-edge Blade Battery, which allows batteries to be effectively “sandwiched” into the car’s body and reinforce the vehicle’s structure.

The team are proud of their configuration; in particular the reputation for being robust and safe. The BYD team refer to this as CTB Technology or cell-to-body. And to supplement this, the SEAL will also enjoy iTAC (intelligence Torque Adaption Control), which more carefully allocates drive torque and shift to the vehicle, thereby enhancing safety and ensuring additional comfort / security.

The introduction of the SEAL is almost certainly to provide an alternative to similar cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4, Tesla Model 3 (Project Highland) and Polestar 2. A winner of the iF Design Award, the team have made a vehicle based on sportiness and style with their distinctive X-shaped front. But the “Brighter than ever” aesthetics which make this a distinctive option do not deride from the practicality of the shape; the design team have created an aerodynamic and low-drag vehicle.
Inside, the 15.6” rotatable touchscreen will effectively drive and control the SEAL along with comforts like a panoramic sunroof, immersive driving theatre (12-speaker sound system), integrated sport seats (heated and electrically adjustable) plus a series of internal and external smart storage.

So, what BYD SEAL options will be available in the UK?

Thus far, we have been provided with two key models:

  •  Seal Saloon 230kW Design 83kWh 4Dr Auto (costing around £45,000); and
  • Seal Saloon 390kW Excellence AWD 83kWh 4Dr Auto (costing around £48,000);

So how does the standard Design perform?

This RWD will have an 82.5 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 5.9 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 230 kW (or 308 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 260 miles with warmer weather allowing for 345 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 9 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 150 kW DC maximum allowing 38 minute 10 – 80% times.

A cargo volume of 400L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 152 mpg. This option cannot tow. But the EV will have Bidirectional charging, with a V2L / Vehicle-to-Load capability of 3.3 kW AC via an exterior Type 2 outlet.

So how does the upgraded Excellence perform?

This AWD will have an 82.5 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 3.8 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 390 kW (or 523 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 250 miles with warmer weather allowing for 345miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 9 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 150 kW DC maximum allowing 38 minute 10 – 80% times.

A cargo volume of 400L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 147 mpg. This option cannot tow. But the EV will have Bidirectional charging, with a V2L / Vehicle-to-Load capability of 3.3 kW AC via an exterior Type 2 outlet.

Frequently asked questions
See our guides See our guides
How much is a BYD SEAL Electric to lease?
The saloon, with a price tag of between £45,000 - £50,000, should cost between £350 - £600 per month term and mileage dependent. Check out our special offers later in 2024, where more competitive rates could arise.

Is a BYD SEAL Electric a good car to lease?
BYD are a manufacturer dedicated to the EV project. For UK customers they can be assured of reliability, battery robustness and technology. The only critique could be the slightly off-pace DC rapid charging capability, which falls short of the 200 kW DC many competitors are now offering, especially those with 800V infrastructure.

Is a BYD SEAL Electric lease right for me or the business?
What makes a great deal is often more than just the price; never more with an electric car because of the big variety in range, charging capabilities and performance. To support our personal, business and salary sacrifice customers, we have a unique EVC™ and “living with your ...” tools to review each potential option. This succinctly and clearly identifies just how the EV will perform and what you can expect. As a long-term finance solution, we want you to be assured that the asset chosen is the right one for you.

Where do I find the best BYD SEAL Electric lease deals in the UK?
While the e-car team offer the leading service and information on an EV, there are also electric car comparison websites like Carwow, LeaseLoco and Leasing.com who can help you to understand the best price.

What is the cheapest BYD SEAL Electric leasing option?
The BYD Seal Saloon 230kW Design 83kWh 4Dr Auto will be the best value option.

What is the range of the electric BYD SEAL?

On the RWD saloon, expect a combined range of circa 310 miles with the AWD at 300 miles. We do encourage our customers to understand that range will be specific to the type of journey, speeds and temperature, all of our range analysis is real-world and not WLTP
