Ford were surprisingly slow to bring out their pure-electric offering and while the decision to bring out a more luxury SUV / Crossover was perhaps a positive one for growing their brand, the price tag on the Mach-E does mean that customers will really expect that the product delivers. This will effectively be competing against the Tesla Model Y, VW ID.5 and the Skoda Enyaq Coupe. While early teething problems with the battery tech led to recalls and delays, the product is now in full flow and is getting some positive response from the automotive press. But ultimately the discerning UK customer will be utilising test-drives and in-depth analysis.

If you are looking for a visually exciting EV, coupled with the interior familiarity which Ford brings, then you won’t be disappointed with the Mach-E. And the introduction of the GT performance EV, which is definitely worth the investment, is likely to quench the thirsts of even the most hardened petrolheads (GT adds 20” alloys, wheel lip mouldings, black door cladding, performance seats, GT scuff plates and MagneRide suspension). However, understanding if the Ford EV is right for you or the business involves taking into account the nature of contract hire / leasing (a long-term usership product) and the EV lifestyle. For example, home and workplace charging infrastructure, charging times and charge points along your regular commutes will help ascertain if this really is the best car. Just because a Ford EV is so cost-effective on a business lease or via a Salary Sacrifice scheme doesn’t mean you should choose it.
