Leasing a Ford Puma Electric in the UK

The Ford group have been busy in the UK media in 2024; much of which has been around the ZEV Mandate and the legal (and political) obligation to move the cars manufacturers produce from petrol and diesel towards all-electric battery formats.

Plant closures and direct feedback to the government may lead you to believe that Ford ae backing away from their commitments. But this week (December 2024) they announced yet another credible SUV for their UK customer’s, personal and business, to enjoy – the Puma Gen-E.

With a Mach-E, Explorer and Capri already in production, 2025 will be a formative year for Ford, who are trying to make up some ground which brands like VW, Cupra, Peugeot and BYD have been making. With the combustion Puma constantly one of the best selling vehicles in the UK, converting this to lithium-ion is a sage progression.

But what Puma Gen-E options will be available?

  •  Select - from £29,995 the standard model will include 17” alloys, LED projector lights with day time running function, wireless charging pad, power start button, quickclear front windscreen, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, 12.8” instrument cluster, 12” touchscreen display, driver lumbar support, pre-collision assist, lane keeping aid and lane departure warning; and
  • Premium -  from £31,995 the upgraded model will include 18” alloy, Matrix LED lights, LED rear lamps, power-foldable heated door mirrors with puddle lights, front scuff plates, 12” touchscreen display, B&O audio system, keyless entry and power lift tailgate.

To upgrade your electric puma you can add options like the winter pack (heated seats and steering wheel), advanced driver assistance pack (dual heated exterior mirrors, collision mitigation, speed sign recognition, 360 degree camera, front parking aid and reverse brake assist), comfort pack (power liftgate and keyless entry / start), panorama roof, detachable towbar and the black painted roof.

Colours include frozen white, electric yellow, agate black, solar silver, fantastic red and digital aqua blue.

But how does the electric Puma Gen-E perform?

  • with a usable battery of 43.6 kWh which offers 124 kW (166hp), top speeds of 99 mph and 0-62 times of 8.0 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 145 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 200 miles (on a full charge) - 170 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 4 hour and 45 minutes with the 100 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 23 minutes. The Ford SUV has no Bidirectional charging. It has a 158 mpg equivalent, 523L cargo volume and offers towing capacities of 750kg (unbraked) and 750kg (braked). The heat pump is not available with the Puma.

With prices expected to start at around £29,995, this is a well-priced affordable EV for consumers / retail customers. And with the EV mandate enforcing that manufacturers reach 28% zero-emission in 2025, there needs to be attractive and robust solutions available. The Puma is very much that for small family SUVs.

But ensuring that you, or the company, understands the proposition is going to work will be very much down to the suitability of the car. While going electric is a positive move, there are corresponding obligations too.

Our website assists you with this via our “living with your ...” analysis and our EVC™ tools. Fundamental elements like real-world range, charging times (AC and DC), charging costs, charge solutions, performance and towing are included too. We now include other aspects like EV tariffs, motor insurance and bidirectional charging as well.
