Leasing a Genesis GV70 Electric in the UK

Athletic Elegance … the Genesis brand are back at it again with yet another luxury SUV option to lease, with their bigger all-electric GV70 to supplement the current GV60 small SUV. So, is the Genesis GV70 now electric? Until mid-2022, this was a petrol and diesel option offered by the prestige car division of the South Korean car manufacturer – Hyundai.

While the combustion vehicles have very much flown under the radar, the move to battery propulsion does seem to have revolutionised this Hyundai offshoot, as the UK’s personal, business and salary sacrifice markets continue to electrify at an impressive rate.

What is the GV70 comparable to? The electric SUV segment is more than saturated with credible options to utilise. The Genesis 4x4 will have to overcome some great competition as it looks to secure the UK’s buoyant EV economy – the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mach-E, BMW iX3, Mercedes EQC and the upcoming Polestar 3. But the group are confident with their innovation. From the sleek and refined exterior styling to the robust charging capability to the exciting “boost mode” for maximum performance, the Genesis team are utilising the key facets of electrification.

And what specification does the electric GV70 have?

So far only one model has been announced – the Sport. From around £65,000, personal and business lease customers can enjoy – LED headlamps, acoustic glass, ventilated brake discs, 19” alloys, electronic control suspension, EV mood lighting, leather seats, driver seat with memory function, electric lumbar support, 60/40 split folding seats, Trailer Stability Assist, Smart Cruise Control, rain sensor, 14.5” screen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charger, front & rear parking sensors, rear view camera, smart key, electric tailgate, trailer package (wiring) and heat pump.

Choose from 15 different colours and 3 interior colours plus two trims. While 19” alloys are standard, upgrade to 20” Dark Sputtering alloys if you want the sportier look. And with a host of options  to add to the GV70 such as -  the Innovation Pack (dual LED lights, parking collision avoidance, HUD, remote parking, blind spot assist), Comfort Seat Pack (lumbar support, ventilated seats and seat bolster), Vehicle-to-Load Package (inside and outside plug capable of 3.7 kW charging for electric devices)  -  creating the ultimate EV experience is possible.

And how does the GV70 perform – is it a good car?

The GV70 is available in just one format / battery configuration. The usable 74 kWh lithium battery offers 360 kW (or 483hp), 0 – 62 times of 4.2 seconds and 146mph top speeds. On range, the GV70 electric should cover around 185 miles in colder weather on a full charge, with warmer weather allowing for 245 miles. And does it charge quickly enough?

Where Genesis really shines is with their charging capabilities. This SUV allows 11 kW AC max for 8 hour 0 – 100% times with the 233 kW DC rapid charge capabilities providing for 17 minute 10 – 80 times. Considering this is a large family SUV option, it’s fair to say the e-car lease team are very impressed.

Moving to the electric GV70 isn’t just going to be a move made by business / fleet and salary sacrifice customers across the UK. What’s fascinating is that personal and consumer interest in BEVs is increasing just as sharply, as many of us move towards more sustainable and eco-friendly forms of transport. And EVs are not boring or tepid; this new battery format of the GV70 is one of the quickest SUVs available to lease or buy with the 4.2 second 0 – 62 times.

And unlike a performance vehicle or supercar, the running costs are far more manageable. With an overall range of around 215 miles and charging cost from 0 – 100% at around £20, this equates to just 9.64 pence per mile. For a 3 year 10,000 mile per annum contract, this would equate to a fuel bill of just under £3000 across the term. An equivalent petrol option would cost that in under 12 months. Add to that cheaper servicing costs and the ability to remove any Clean Air Zone or Congestion Zone fees and you can see why moving to an electric SUV is the thing to do in 2022 and beyond.
