Leasing a Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the UK

Is there a car which can compete with the Tesla Model 3?
While Tesla have been the most dominant electric car manufacturer since 2019 / 2020, it’s fair to say that they now face stiff competition from some excellent brands and models – the Polestar 2, BMW i4, Genesis G80 and Mercedes EQE are all now providing genuine alternatives within that segment (budget dependent).

But another key manufacturer to electrification transition, Hyundai, have added another robust zero-emission option to their product suite for leasing customers to select – the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (this car is slightly longer than the Model 3).

So, what is the new Hyundai Ioniq 6?

The self-proclaimed “Electrified Streamliner” promises to “waken your world”. The curvaceous saloon (or Sedan) emulates the Mercedes CLA coupled with some Porsche-esque lighting design. Without a doubt, the Hyundai team are aiming to push their product into the luxury and prestige segment with their latest innovation. And, as part of brand consistency, the incredible design and aesthetics which have made the smaller Ioniq 5 so popular has been utilised for this new electric car.

What specification will the Ioniq 6 have?

The official models and configurations have not yet been confirmed by the South-Korean manufacturer – they may elect to follow their electric hatchback and use the Premium, Ultimate and Namsan Edition. But they have confirmed some exciting and innovative tech within their BEVs including – Digital Side Mirror (which act as your side mirror / wing mirror within the cabin), a 12” digital cluster with a 12” infotainment touchscreen, the Shift-By-Wire for changing gear using the gear knob, 4 C-type ports for charging coupled with 1 A-Type for data transfer, wireless phone charging, multi-connection Bluetooth for using many devices, surround view monitor, head up display, 7 airbags, navigation based smart cruise control, highway driving assist 2, remote parking assist, front and rear collision avoidance system.

So far 12 colours have been included, with key ones like – Serenity white, Gravity Gold, Nocturne Grey Matte and Transmission Blue Pearl available. Not to mention a choice of the 20” sports alloys or the more frugal and efficient 18” streamlined options.

And what range / capability will the Hyundai Ioniq 6 have ?

Where Hyundai are so popular, apart from their highly rated reliability and safety, has been with their range and charging abilities. The Ioniq 6 will also include the innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) features from the Ioniq 5 which allows you to connect and charge electric devices inside or outside your vehicle up to 230V. And the Ioniq 6 will come with 400V/800V fast charging for a completely hassle free electric experience. In terms of battery options in the UK, choose from:

  • Standard Range 2WD – from £44,000, the basic option will adopt a usable battery of 54 kWh which generates 125 kW (or 168hp), 118mph top speeds and 0 - 62 times of 8 seconds. The standard range Ioniq 6 will cover a combined 180 miles on a full charge in colder climates with warmer weather upgrading this to 255 miles. And the 11kW AC max will provide for 6 hour 0 – 100% charging times. Rapid charging from 10 – 80% will take just under 20 minutes on the 175 kW DC max;
  • Long Range 2WD – from £47,500, this upgraded model will adopt a usable battery of 74 kWh which generates 168 kW (or 225hp), 118mph top speeds and 0 - 62 times of 7 seconds. The longer range Ioniq 6 will cover a combined 245 miles on a full charge in colder climates, with warmer weather upgrading this to 340 miles. And the 11kW AC max will provide for 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times. Rapid charging from 10 – 80% will take just 17 minutes on the 233 kW DC (800V) making this one of the quickest charging all-electric cars to lease or buy; and
  • Long Range AWD – from £52,000 this top of the line model will adopt a usable battery of 74 kWh which generates 239 kW (or 321hp), 118mph top speeds and 0 - 62 times of 5.1 seconds. The all-wheel drive longer range Ioniq 6 will cover a combined 240 miles on a full charge in colder climates with warmer weather upgrading this to 335 miles. And the 11kW AC max will provide for 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times. Rapid charging from 10 – 80% will take just 17 minutes on the 233 kW DC (800V). For EV drivers looking for the best performance options, make sure you add this 4WD Ioniq 6 alternative.

And what makes the Ioniq so good? When can I or the business order it?

The all-electric saloon has recognised a key facet – charging times and capabilities are as important (if not more) than range. Undeniably this futuristic yet minimalist saloon will provide a robust range but in allowing customers to enjoy sub-20 minute rapid charging experiences, this dispels the theory that “electric cars are just too slow to charge”.

Some first-time EV customers are concerned about moving away from petrol or diesel vehicles because they are worried about replacing a 5/10 minute petrol station experience for up to an hour’s experience at a charging hub (found at supermarkets, service stations and dedicated drive-ups like Gridserve).

And while some BEVs have slower AC and DC charging capabilities, this Hyundai is anything other with their innovative 800V fast-charging system. Regardless of your range, if you are a high-mileage driver, particularly on motorways and highways, the chances are that you need to use the public infrastructure.

At that juncture, your car’s ability to charge quickly relies on two key facets – 1) the charging rate of the battery (shown as kW DC); and 2) the charging speed of the charge point (shown as kW). With the Ioniq 6 setup for 233 kW this means leasing customers can enjoy the 250 kW charge points (and higher)  you are seeing being installed by companies like Instavolt, Ionity and Gridserve.

Will your next personal or business lease be the electric Ioniq 6?

How much is a Hyundai Ioniq 6 to lease?

Customers will be paying more than on the Ioniq 5 hatchback.

Is a Hyundai Ioniq 6 a good car to lease?
With limited information and demo vehicles available, the automotive press and media have not yet heavily reported or reviewed the Ioniq 5 just yet. But some telling headlines are worth taking on board if you are looking to place an order for 2023 – “Is it a Model 3 killer” says Chasing Cars, “better than a Model S?” asks CarWow  and “It’s like NOTHING else” from AutoTrader. With the smaller Ioniq 5 collecting a swathe of awards including the 2022 “World Car of the Year”, the e-car lease team have high expectations from this exciting Hyundai.

Is a Hyundai Ioniq 6 lease right for me or the business?
It looks good, it charges quickly, and it has a great electric range – but is it the best vehicle for me? The transition to electric cars, and vans, is not without its issues or quandaries. Unlike a petrol/diesel vehicle, there is not yet a mass-understanding of how an EV lifestyle will work and what key facets are crucial to take on board. For example, the cost of charging, the cost per mile, real-world range, charging times, charge point infrastructure and company car tax are all elements which need to be understood. This is where our “living with your …” tools on the e-car lease website are so crucial as we give you THE answers on all of this.

Where do I find the best Hyundai Ioniq 6 lease deals in the UK?
At the present time (July 2022) there are no brokers, finance companies or price comparison websites offering this to buy or lease. However, by late 2022, expect many of the UK’s leading lease price comparison websites to feature this pure electric saloon, like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher or LeaseLoco. For anyone, or any company, looking to understand if it is better to lease or buy the Ioniq 6, head to your local Hyundai dealership for a PCP or HP quotation to compare against the e-car lease contract hire deals. And don’t forget our special offers section either!
