Are there any family-friendly EVs for the UK’s personal and business leasing market?

The good news is that a well-known commercial vehicle (van / LCV) manufacturer is entering 2024 with a new all-electric minivan which might just be suitable for bigger families, companies needing a shuttlebus or private hire and taxi operators. The Maxus MIFA 9 is now available to order via a local dealership or through a contract hire and leasing broker like the e-car lease team.

The Maxus brand, which is known for the e-Deliver electric vans and the Maxus T90 pickup, is moving away from its rugged roots and into the more placid car industry. With production underpinned by SAIC, the owners of the MG brand, this move is not altogether that surprising.

Having appeared in 2021 as a concept vehicle, the Maxus Mifa was set to be the world’s only large, and luxurious, van-derived car. And while production and sales began in Asia throughout 2021 and 2022, the move towards Western Europe and the UK only took place in late 2023 / early 2024.

The new MIFA 9 will be available in 3 specifications including:

• Elite – the entry model includes 18” alloys, poly urethane steering wheel, PVC leather upholstery, 6-way manually adjustable steering wheel, 4-way adjustable driver seat, secondary slip single seat, manual sliding door, manual tail gate, auto air conditioning front and rear, 6-speaker, 2-smart keys, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, 180 degree rear view imaging, rear radar, driver fatigue assist and LED headlights;        

•  Luxury – this adds 4-way electrically adjustable driver seat and lumbar support, secondary slip seat with electric for heating / massage / ventilation, knitted fabric interior, electric sliding door, electrically operated / foldable / heated door mirrors, privacy glass, wireless charging, air cleaner, 8-speaker sound system, front and side door lights, all-power windows, anti-glare rear view mirror, front and rear radar and 12V power outlet; and
• Premium - this adds front/rear electric sunroof, 19” alloys, heated steering wheel, Leather upholstery, 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat and lumbar support with massage / ventilation / memory, luxury hair secondary slip single seat, chamois coated, 12 speaker sound system and streaming media rear view mirror. 

Choose between colours like Blanc White, Obsidian Black, Mica Blue and Dynasty Red. All options include an 8 year (200,000km) battery warranty and a 5-year vehicle warranty.

But how does this MPV perform?

This FWD will have an 84 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.2 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 180 kW (or 241hp). Expect a combined winter range of 195 miles with warmer weather allowing for 255 miles.

On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 9 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 114 kW DC maximum allowing 36 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 466L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 108 mpg. You can tow 750kg (Unbraked) and 1000kg (Braked) with this EV. It also has no Bidirectional charging capabilities. But it does have a heat pump
