Leasing a Nissan Ariya in the UK

For an automotive giant with some of the longest electric car production history (the Nissan Leaf has sold over 200,000 units across Europe since launching in 2010 / 2011), many customers were left feeling perplexed about why Nissan hadn’t yet introduced more exciting models to supplement this.

Indeed, the star of electric car engineering, Tesla, managed to outstrip Nissan’s historic vehicle sales via their world-leading Model 3 in just a short space of time. But Nissan are now fighting back and their new electric crossover, the Ariya, is to become one of many all-electric models looking to redress the balance. And in launching a crossover / SUV, Nissan do place themselves with a great opportunity to win back the confidence of the UK’s personal and business leasing customers.

The self-proclaimed “force of wonder” launched in 2022, with early demonstration models being made available as of April / May. At the current time (May 2022), there will be four battery / drivetrain configurations to choose from, including:

  • 63 kWh – the entry-model 2WD format possesses 160 kW of power (or 215hp), 0 - 62 times of 7.5 seconds and top speeds of 99 mph. The combined real-world range will be around 175 miles in colder climates and 235 miles in warmer climates on a full charge. Expect charging times of 10 hours for 0 – 100% on the 7.4 kW AC max with 30-minute rapid charging on the 130 kW DC max;
  • 87 kWh – the bigger battery 2WD format generates 178 kW (or 239hp), 0 - 62 times of 7.6 seconds and top speeds of 99 mph. The combined real-world range will be around 235 miles in colder climates and 315 miles in warmer climates on a full charge. Expect charging times of just under 5 hours for 0 – 100% on the incredible 22 kW AC max with 35-minute rapid charging on the 130 kW DC max;
  • 87 kWh e-4orce - the bigger battery 4WD option generates 225 kW (or 302 hp), 0 - 62 times of 5.7 seconds and top speeds of 124 mph. The combined real-world range will be around 220 miles in colder climates and 295 miles in warmer climates on a full charge. Expect charging times of just under 5 hours for 0 – 100% on the incredible 22 kW AC max with 35-minute rapid charging on the 130 kW DC max; and
  • 87 kWh e-4orce Performance - the elite 4WD configuration generates 290 kW (or 389 hp), 0 - 62 times of 5.1 seconds and top speeds of 124 mph. The combined real-world range will be around 205 miles in colder climates and 265 miles in warmer climates on a full charge. Expect charging times of just under 5 hours for 0 – 100% on the incredible 22 kW AC max with 35-minute rapid charging on the 130 kW DC max.

And it isn’t just the wide selection of battery and drivetrains which are making this car one of the best SUVs to lease in 2022 and 2023, the specification choice is also something to applaud. The product suite includes:

  • Advance – includes 19” alloys, hands-free  power tailgate, LED front and rear lights, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, heated windscreen, power driver/passenger seats, 12.2” screens, wireless phone charger, Apple CarPlay, Around View monitor, intelligent key, ProPilot navigation, heat pump and both a Mode 2 and Mode 3 cable for charging; and
  • Evolve - includes 20” alloys, adaptive driving beam, panoramic sunroof, 8-way seats, memory seats, power mirrors, memory intelligent key, HUD, ProPilot park and advanced windscreen.

Options to add include nappa leather, sports pack (20” alloys and leather), sky pack and Bose Tech pack.

With Nissan set to be competing against the Skoda Enyaq, Ford Mustang Mach-e and the Genesis GV60, customers looking into their new EV need to make decisions well  in advance of delivery. How long does it take to get an electric car?  Because of COVID and microchip/parts shortages, many lead times are in excess of six months. It is unlikely that any EV will be in stock or on offer for an ASAP delivery.

For our business and personal leasing customers we recommend that if you have 6 months remaining on your existing contract, you should be placing your order on the new Nissan Ariya to avoid delays and disappointment. Manufacturing process and timings have altered dramatically and with a shortage of hire companies using EVs, it’s of the utmost importance to be organised.

Ready to place an order on the Nissan Ariya? At e-car lease we offer any make, model and variant of new electrics. This means we can not only arrange your order of the new Ariya crossover, but we can tailor a contract hire package to suit you, or the fleet, in the quickest time possible. Select from a term of 2, 3 or 4 years, annual mileages between 5,000 – 20,000, varied initial rentals (including no deposit options) and select to include maintenance or self-maintain.

With maintenance you can add all the servicing, maintenance and tyres cost provisions for an additional monthly fee. This is how we create complete piece of mind and cost-certainty for our leasing customers. How much is a Nissan Ariya Electric to lease?
Ranging between £41,000 - £60,000 (at the time of writing in May 2022), expect the best electric Nissan crossover deals to cost between £450 – £650 per month taking into account the car, specification and contract you select. The Ariya is not a budget or cheap car to lease and is very much aiming to be a prestige vehicle, competing against the Mercedes EQA and Audi Q4.

Is a Nissan Ariya a good car to lease?
The Ariya is still relatively new and untested in the UK’s personal and fleet market. However, with a 10-year+ history of designing and producing electric cars, many Nissan fans are hoping this can deliver a truly positive experience. The automotive press has provided some mixed reviews with What Car? rating this at 3 out of 5, CarWow say 8/10, Top Gear 7/10 and electrifying 8/10. Make sure to test-drive before committing to a long term lease contract.

Is a Nissan Ariya electric lease right for me or the business?
The Ariya seems to tick many boxes – SUV, good range, quick charging capabilities and stylish – but ensuring you, or the company, have chosen the right EV will depend on much more factors. This is where our amazing “Living with your ...” tool is so useful, as it gives every driver, fleet manager and decision maker the opportunity to fully consider just how well (or not) the Ariya performs. While the bigger 87 kWh battery looks set to be the most popular choice with the near-300 mile range and AC fast charge function, you do have to consider monthly budgets and suitability for low-mileage customers too.

Where do I find the best Nissan Ariya lease deals in the UK?
The best Nissan Ariya offers are often found on our e-car lease website, a procurement hub dedicated to anything and everything EV. However, many customers will use price comparison websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher and LeaseLoco or review websites like Discover EV and the GreenCarGuide too. Additionally, because of the cost of the Ariya, make sure you visit your local Nissan dealership to test-drive, review and compare purchase-style finance products. Many customers are asking – is it better to lease or buy the Nissan Ariya? Well, do the research and decide based on your needs and requirements.

What is the Cheapest Nissan Ariya Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (May 2022) ELECTRIC HATCHBACK 160kW Advance 63kWh 5dr Auto at just over £40,000. However, this is still not what we would refer to as a “cheap EV” and will only be suitable for those personal, business or salary sacrifice customers with healthy budgets.

What is the range of an electric Nissan Ariya?
Because there are different battery choices, the range you will get from the Ariya will depend on which you choose. You also need to take into account key factors which impact range like weather, driver behaviours and the terrain. For example, the 2WD 63 kWh on a full charge can achieve 145 miles on a motorway and 210 miles of city driving in colder climates compared to 185 miles on a motorway and 305 miles of city driving in warmer temperatures. In the same way, the 4WD 87 kWh model can offer (on a full charge) 185 miles on a motorway and 260 miles of city driving in colder climates compared to 235 miles on a motorway and 380 miles of city driving in warmer temperatures.

Can you tow a Nissan Ariya?
Yes – tow hitch / attachments are available on the Nissan Ariya. This is referred to as a Towing Pack which provides a removable towbar and 13-pin electrics.

What is the towing capacity of the Nissan Ariya?
We expect many customers to utilise the standard e-4ORCE or Performance e-4ORCE options for towing. These allow for 1500kg towing capabilities. The standard 63 kWh option, with the 2WD drive train, can only tow 750kg unbraked.

What is the MPG of the Nissan Ariya?
The 63 kWh has a fuel equivalent of 132 mpg, the 87 kWh has a fuel equivalent of 128 mpg, the 87 kWh e-4ORCE has a fuel equivalent of 121mpg and the 87 kWh e-4ORCE Performance car has a fuel equivalent of 109mpg.
