Leasing a Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric in the UK

The Renault group do deserve recognition for their impact on the UK’s EV market; their city-car Zoe has been a mainstay of early adopters since its arrival in 2013 (YES – 10 years ago).

But while this was historically once of the best-selling EVs to buy or lease, the French manufacturer were remarkably quiet in launching additional models to supplement this hatchback. Only in 2022, did we see the launch of the Megane E-Tech , a bigger 5-door hatchback which modern aesthetics and more robust electric capabilities. But in 2023, the group finally announced the next addition with their all-electric family-friendly Scenic E-tech.

The turnaround from concept in May 2022 to official order date in December 2023 is incredible. Powered by LG nikel-manganese-cobalt batteries (NMC), this option will consist of both standard and long range models. And what is probably quite obvious, is that the Scenic E-tech has moved away from the traditional Scenic MPV, which was a popular combustion model for families. The model will instead be a crossover SUV, more akin to the Nissan Ariya, Volvo C40, BMW iX2 and Kia EV6.

What options of the new all-electric Scenic are available in the UK?

As at December 2023, Renault have confirmed a Long Range model in the below:

  •  Techno  – from £40,995 this model will include a heat pump, wireless smartphone, 12” multimedia system, auto-dimming rear view mirror, emergency brake assist, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, ingenious rear armrest, power tailgate, climate control, interior ambient lighting, LED lights, 19” alloys, tinted rear windows and automatic wiper
  •  Esprit Alpine – from £43,495 this model includes 20” speedway alloys, sport seats, Alpine steering wheel, driver and passenger heated seats, emergency lane keeping assist and sports aesthetics; and
  •  Iconic – from £45,495 this model includes 20” oracle alloys, Harman Kardan audio solarbay panoramic sunroof and around view 3D camera.

In terms of colours, choose between flame red, matte shadow grey, midnight blue, arctic white and diamond black. Add the colour contrast black roof for the more athletic exterior.

But as a pure electric car, the key question is how does the Scenic perform?

This FWD SUV will have an 87 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.9 seconds, 106 mph top speeds and 160 kW (or 215hp). Expect a combined winter range of 255 miles with warmer weather allowing for 345 miles.

On charging, the 22 kW AC max will allow 4 hour and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 150 kW DC maximum allowing 40 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 545L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 140 mpg. This EV will have no Bidirectional charging. And the car will be able to tow 750kg (Unbaked) and 1100kg (Braked).

So far the UK’s automotive media have given mixed reviews with Autocar at 4/5, CAR magazine at 3/5, What Car? at 4/5 and Parkers at 4/5.
