Leasing a Toyota bZ4X in the UK

The growth of electric SUVs to lease in the UK is phenomenal but this is what many customers do want. And need. Higher driving positions, spacious interiors for families and a plethora of technological and safety features are now imperative for any manufacturer looking to have to the best BEV 4x4 to buy / lease.

It’s therefore unsurprising that Toyota’s first attempt at electrification, the strangely namely bZ4X, is a crossover option. And while their hydrogen option, the Mirai, is a unique alternative, batteries are the main focus moving forwards and Toyota are now pushing this to be a top contender in-line with their hybrid and plug-in fleet products. But expect strong competition from similar cars like the Nissan Ariya, Subaru Solterra, Mercedes EQA and Audi Q4 e-tron.

The electric Toyota was only announced in 2021 with vehicles arriving into the UK around May 2022, making this one of the newest EVs for the e-car lease personal, business and salary sacrifice customers to select. But will there be enough choice within the bZ4X line-up? To their credit, Toyota have identified the need for choice with a healthy array including:

  • Pure – from £41,950.00, the base model includes 18” alloys, 8” Smart connect with Apple CarPlay, navigation, heat pump, advance parking assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, emergency steering assist;
  • Motion – from £45,750.00 this middle-model adds upgraded 18” alloys, 12” Smart connect with Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, heated driver and passenger seat, blind spot monitor and safe exit assist;
  • Vision – from £47,650.00 this luxury options has 20” alloys, remote controlled parking assist, kick-activated boot, heated steering wheel, 360-degree view monitor, rear parking sensors with pedestrian and object braking, driver and front passenger ventilated seats and memory functions; and
  • Premiere Edition– from £51,550.00 the top-spec model offers better 20” alloys, panoramic roof, JBL premium sound, heated steering wheel, kick-activated boot and driver and front passenger ventilated seats.

Not unlike their hybrid product suite, a host of useful packs are available including the essential protection pack (rear bumper protection apron, front and rear mud flaps and boot liner) and towing solutions (fixed or detachable towing hitch and 13-pin electrics).

And while specification choice is somewhat evident, Toyota have managed to engineer a credible electric car which any UK customer can enjoy. For customers buying or leasing their next Toyota EV, they will be offered two configurations:

  • A FWD 71 kWh 152 kW battery – the 2WD model generates 201 hp for 0-62 times of 8.4 seconds and 99 mph top speeds. In terms of range, this will operate around 200 miles in colder weather and 270 miles in warmer climates (on a full charge). For charging times, this option will take nearly 13 hours to charge from 0 – 100% on the 6.6 kW AC maximum, with the 150 kW DC rapid charge max allowing for 30 minute 10 – 80 % times; and
  • An AWD 71 kWh 160 kW battery – the 4WD model generates 215 hp for 0-62 times of 7.7 seconds and 99 mph top speeds. In terms of range, this will operate around 195 miles in colder weather and 265 miles in warmer climates (on a full charge). For charging times, this option will take nearly 13 hours to charge from 0 – 100% on the 6.6 kW AC maximum, with the 150 kW DC rapid charge max allowing for 30 minute 10 – 80 % times;

How much is a Toyota bZ4X Electric to lease?
Ranging between £40,000 - £50,000 (at the time of writing in April 2022), the mid-sized electric crossover will not be a cheap car to lease nor will this be the first choice for those PCH or BCH drivers on a budget. Expect to pay between £400 - £600 per month, dependent on the car and contract required.

Is a Toyota bZ4X Electric a good car to lease?
While new to the UK, automotive publications like What Car? are rating this SUV 4/5, Top gear 7/10 and CarWow 8/10, which is healthy feedback indeed. Toyota have excelled in the world of hybrid and hydrogen segments, but they are already some years behind other manufacturers, many of whom have been selling and leasing EVs since 2018. While early indications are positive, one small note is that the car has a slow AC charging capability (at 6.6 kW AC). Usually we expect this to be 11, or 22, kW AC to provide e-car customers with the maximum convenience.

Is a Toyota bZ4X Electric lease right for me or the business?
The suitability of a BEV is now more than just the looks, specification and technology. Making sure the EV-lifestyle is suitable involves assessing subjects like charging times (and domestic or workplace infrastructure) or in assessing range. That is why our unique “Living with your …” tools are so crucial in you making the right decision on your new Toyota EV. For business leases (and salary sacrifice schemes) the ability to enjoy 2% BiK and low company car tax exposure is something to note. However, all customers have the chance to enjoy enhanced Whole of Life cost positions with lower servicing, maintenance, fuel and running costs. Use our tools to show you just show you just how much you can save.

Where do I find the best Toyota bZ4X lease deals in the UK?
Some of our best bZ4X deals can be found on price comparison websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher and LeaseLoco. But not every deal the e-car team offer will feature there. It’s always prudent to check our industry leading website from time to time for the leading offers. Whether it is better to lease or buy is a subjective query and we do recommend you visit the local dealership to compare PCP, HP or finance lease offers

What is the Cheapest a Toyota bZ4X Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (April 2022) the 152kW Motion 71.4kWh 5dr Auto, at nearly £42,000 is the cheapest crossover EV to lease from Toyota.

What is the range of an Electric Toyota bZ4X?
The range of the EV will be a crucial part of our customer’s decision to lease. However, the e-car lease team do tend to avoid just one figure, as the vehicle will perform differently in warmer and colder climates and also in term of urban / city driving compared to motorway travelling. Use the “Living with your ...” tools on our website to help make this decision
