Vauxhall Astra Car leasing
The demand for electric cars continues to increase into 2023 (and beyond), with the UK’s personal and business leasing market being responsible for much of this. The nature of contract hire and leasing, being a usership / rental style agreement, has been the perfect finance product for encouraging EV growth, with customers not having to undertake any risks or responsibilities with residual values and by having the ability to change their car every 2, 3 or 4 years.
And another new addition to the EV hatchback (and estate) segment could represent yet another fantastic leasing deal, with Vauxhall formally launching their award-winning Astra into the UK’s EV industry. Set to be available to order from April 2023 and delivered in September 2023, Vauxhall have built upon the success of the Corsa electric by adding a more spacious and family-friendly model which could see them compete with the Nissan Leaf, MG4 EV, VW ID.3 and Cupra Born. And the estate model would be a credible car to compare against the MG5.
The electrification of the Astra is a great move by the Stellantis-owned Vauxhall, as the announcement of an electric Peugeot 308 from their sister brand provided a hint that this would happen (they share the same tech and platform).
Vauxhall, with both their Corsa and Astra, have been one of the most consistent “best-sellers” in the UK for many years and the replacement of a combustion engine for lithium-ion batteries enables the customer to not only enjoy the benefits of zero-emission driving but to also experience the familiar comforts of an existing platform.
With an Astra being available in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid format, the electric addition is a positive way forward - “Bold and Pure Design” according to the manufacturer’s website.
While Vauxhall have been noticeably quiet on exactly what models UK customers can expect, there is a suggestion that the EV and PHEV will adopt two key options including:
As part of the styling expect the new Astra EV to enjoy the striking Vizor front grille, ergonomic front seats (with ventilation and massaging function) with a digital interior enabling premium connectivity. The PureConnect philosophy is about a technologically integrated experience for the driver, with Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming, wireless charging, live traffic information on the navigation, HUD and an 8-speaker HiFi system.
And customers can be assured of all the safety features with the Intellilix Pixel lights, adaptive cruise control, intelli-vision all round view camera and the Intelli-Drive system (lane positioning assist, land change assist and rear cross traffic alert). And comfort is king to the all-electric Astra with improved seating quality for the driver and passengers (as part of the healthier back campaign), heated front and rear windscreens, heated seats, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof and high-efficiency air filter. All in all, a car focused on quality.
Starting from around £36,000, the 50.8 kWh lithium-ion battery will offer 0 – 62 times of 8.5 seconds, 106 mph top speeds and 115 kW (or 154 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 160 miles with warmer weather allowing for 220 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 5 hour and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 100 kW DC maximum allowing 26 minute 10 – 80% times. The hatch will have a cargo volume of 352L and vehicle fuel equivalent of 151 mpg.
