Leasing a Volvo C40 in the UK

Volvo have made significant promises about becoming the world’s number one electric car manufacturer. Having captured the UK’s attention for the safest cars, sterling build quality and value for money (compared to Audi, Mercedes and BMW), this ambitious target may be more achievable with newer product being released to support their original all-electric XC40 SUV option.

The C40 is a luxury crossover which is based on the CMA platform (which Polestar 2 and XC40 use) and is very much a sports / coupe SUV which has been designed to compete with the likes of the VW Id.5, Audi Q4 Sportback and Citroen e-C4. Maintaining the practicality of the SUV for driving position and practicality, the C40 adds sleeker and attractive stylings as part of the brand’s modernisation strategy.

But which specification is the best to choose within the C40?

Volvo are producing a number of levels including:

  • Core (Single Motor only) – from £47,100 the base model includes 19” alloys, power operated tailgate, auto-dimmed rear view mirror, 9” centre display, textile upholstery, panoramic sunroof, tinted rear windows, climate control, lane keeping aid, LED headlights, wireless phone charging, comfort seats and charging cables for a 3-pin plug and standard Type 2 charge point;
  • Plus (Single and Twin Motor) – from £53,100 - £58,350 this car includes premium textile upholstery, heat pump, heated steering wheel, air quality system, pilot assist for adaptive cruise control, BLIS, auto folding/heated/powered door mirrors, heated front seats and heated rear seats; and
  •  Ultimate (Single and Twin Motor) – from £56,700 - £61,950 this car adds connect suede upholstery, Harman Karon Premium Sound, 20” alloy wheels, humidity sensor, 360-degree camera, keyless drive and power driver’s seat and memory.

And Volvo are also making two battery choices for UK drivers to utilise:

  • Recharge – this 67 kWh lithium battery delivers 170 kW (or 228hp) for 0 - 62 times of 7.4 seconds and top speeds of 99mph. The combined real-world range is 175 miles in colder weather and 230 miles in warmer climates. Charging times based on the 11 kW AC max are 7 hours 15 minutes for 0 – 100% with the 133 kW DC rapid charge delivering 30 minute 10-80% times; and
  • Recharge Twin – the bigger battery (Plus and Ultimate only) upgrades the C40 to a 75 kWh lithium battery. This delivers 300 kW (or 402hp) for 0 - 62 times of 4.7 seconds and top speeds of 112mph. The combined real-world range is 185 miles in colder weather and 245 miles in warmer climates. Charging times based on the 11 kW AC max are 8 hours 15 minutes for 0 – 100% with the 151 kW DC rapid charge capabilities delivering 32 minute 10-80% times.

But how much does it cost to fuel an electric C40?

Using our amazing “Living with your …” tools, you can quickly and easily workout exactly what this SUV will cost. For example, our full charge cost will show the cost for charging the car from 0 -100% and you can input your home, or workplace, tariff to get an exact result.

The Dual Motor C40 will cost £21 for a “full tank” based on a £0.28 kWh tariff, which is the maximum you can be charged until September 2022.
