Taking your Industrial Cleaning fleet electric in 2025

make sure to consider the BMW i5 EV
Taking your Industrial Cleaning fleet electric in 2025

Consider the BMW i5 EV When taking your Industrial Cleaning company fleet electric in 2025

It’s no secret that moving into an all-electric car is a sage consideration for a business. For any UK Industrial Cleaning businesses, the outbound account managers and director team will be well versed in company cars. Especially when it comes to monthly tax liabilities which impact the income tax!

Before we explain some of the great advantages of moving into a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), we thought it may be useful to address one of the consistent criticisms of the EV transition - “there are not enough chargers”.

As the UK automotive economy grows more and more green, there will of course be a higher necessity for charging solutions in the public domain. While many drivers will rely on their home charging and workplace charging solutions, for high-mileage drivers and those without this type of resource, there is an underlying requirement for a robust infrastructure.

Our partners at Zapmap, who you will see appear on our EVC™, are always on hand to provide the details on where to charge, how much it is to charge and even allow you to pay for your session. The group also provide updates on the number of locations which are in place for you, or the business, to charge. For 2024 there are some amazing headlines for charging infrastructure including:

  •  More than 20,000 new charge points were installed, to bring us to 73,699 in total;
  • The rate of installation grew from 1,400 to 1,650 per month;
  • Ultra-rapid solutions, which are defined as 150kW (and higher), grew 84% in installations; and
  • There are now 7,000 150kW charge points and a combined total of 50kW + charging points

The rationale behind a business (limited company) moving towards a zero-emission vehicle still holds good.  When you use contract hire (operating lease) you can reclaim the rental against Corporation Tax, which is now set at 25% for 2024/25.

If you use a more polluting vehicle, only 85% of the rental can be offset against the tax bill. For a VAT-registered business, you can reclaim up to 50% of the VAT on the finance aspect and 100% of the maintenance aspect. As contract hire / leasing is a usership product, your business is not committed to own this at contract cessation nor is the residual value fluctuation a problem or risk.

With charge point infrastructure fully-deductible under full expensing, any business investment into this infrastructure is a tax efficient process. Plus using an EV is always beneficial to company image, with a green-future and corporate responsibility now a big priority.

For the driver at your Industrial Cleaning company there is a big financial incentive to move into vehicles with 0g/km of CO2.

The tax regulations under HMRC are very much emissions based, which means that the more polluting your vehicle is, the more tax you have to pay (income tax which is deducted at source). Having a company car is not a “free” benefit, although having a vehicle / maintenance and servicing / insurance and fuel is an incredible opportunity!

When you compare a traditional combustion vehicle vs a pure electric, you allow for the employees to save hundreds of pounds per month, often equivalent to a mortgage or rental payment. This is why so many fleets and salary sacrifice options are pushing so energetically to move in this direction. The obvious point is the ability to have better Whole of Life costs for the company along with a positive outcome for your employees (if staff retention is important).

But are EVs boring?

Absolutely not. The old adage that an electric car is unfashionable or slow, is now a complete misnomer. As at 2025, there are a litany of fantastic vehicles for a cleaning business to choose from. Take the BWM i5 M60, which is effectively an M5 with lithium batteries, which the team at Williams BMW Bolton have been showcasing.

As you will note from the images, this is not only a fantastic looking vehicle aesthetically, this is a true performance vehicle. The specification and options on the M60 are incredible too with the vehicle including LED headlights, Live cockpit plus, Curved Display, navigation, sports seats, automatic 2-zone air conditioning.

Wireless charging tray, parking assistant, reversing camera, 20” alloys and leatherette. You can also add some incredible packages with the likes of the Comfort Plus Pack (comfort access, electric bootlid and rear heated seats), Ultimate Pack (Natural Interaction, crafter clarity controls, active seat ventilation, interior camera, adaptive suspension, live cockpit pro) and the technology Plus Pack (driving assistant professional, HUD, natural interaction and interior camera).
