Leasing an XPENG G6 Electric in the UK

Another new brand is coming to the UK; the Chinese-based XPENG are now launching their G6, an electric SUV which “redefines your driving experience”. With sleek design, leading electric performance and leading technology / AI, UK leasing customers are now able to enjoy the “hi-tech living room on wheels”. With many commentators reporting on this brand to be the next best thing in the world of electrified automotive, an eager customer database awaits.

The Xpeng brand launched in China in 2014, but amidst some serious fundraising across East Asia and the USA, the group are now a much different proposition 10 years on. Factories, offices and research centres worldwide (including Europe) is a statement of intent of what this group is looking to do. With a variety of saloon, SUV and MPV options already on sale, for UK customers the G6 will be the first taste of what this brand can offer. Launched in Shanghai in 2023, the mid-sized SUV is a well-specified and robust car for the UK, as much as it is for the East Asian and American markets.

As well as a sterling safety record under the NCAP test results, drivers will also benefit from some exciting features too. Two 50W induction charging ports for a smartphone, XPILOT driver assistance systems are standard, as are the 10.2” driver displays and 14.96” central high resolution displays.

There are nice comfort features like the leatherette seats, 8-way power adjustable seats with 4-way lumbar support plus heated and ventilated front seats. Every car will come with 20” alloys and Michelin tyres, panoramic glass sunroof, 960W audio system with 18 speakers. The group make a big point in adding the heat pump and V2L functionality as standard.

The G6 can tow, although this is an additional option with the electrically deployable towbar. Built on the SEPA 2.0 lightweight EV platform, and with the SEPA 2.0 battery, this is a purpose built EV. This translates to 800V charging capability and favourable range (which we detail below). An advanced operating system in the centre screen to manage all the functions and infotainment is present. This includes voice assistant and the OTA updates for keeping your EV current.

Colour choices include Midnight Black, Arctic White, Silver Frost and Graphite Grey. A limited edition fiery orange is applicable to the long range model. You can utilise a black interior in the standard range or choose between black and white for the long range model.

But how does the electric G6 perform?

Two electric motor configurations will feature including:

  • RWD Standard Range – from £39,990 this has a usable battery of 66 kWh which offers 190kW (255hp), top speeds of 124 mph and 0-62 times of 6.9 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 195 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 260 miles (on a full charge) – 230 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 7 hour and 15 minutes with the 215 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 21 minutes. The G6 has Bidirectional charging – V2L via a 3.3kW AC Type 2 Adapter on exterior and 1 UK socket interior. It has a 141 mpg equivalent, 571L cargo volume and offers towing (capacity to be confirmed). The Heat Pump is standard; and
  • RWD Long Range – from £44,990 this has a usable battery of 87.5 kWh which offers 210kW (282hp), top speeds of 124 mph and 0-62 times of 6.7 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 250 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 340 miles (on a full charge) – 300 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 9 hour and 30 minutes with the 280 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 21 minutes. The G6 has Bidirectional charging – V2L via a 3.3kW AC Type 2 Adapter on exterior and 1 UK socket interior. It has a 139 mpg equivalent, 571L cargo volume and offers towing (capacity to be confirmed). The Heat Pump is standard.

With prices of £39 - 45,000, this is somewhat affordable, especially when you compare this to the likes of the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 4 and Audi Q4. For a company centred around tech, AI and electric capability, the impetus is on meeting the functional demands of the customer.

However, we still do encourage our e-car lease audience to use the amazing facets our website offers. Our “living with your ...” tools and the EVC™ certificates are clear on how your new car will perform. Regardless of this being a personal, business or salary sacrifice enquiry, we do insist this is properly considered to ensure this meets your requirements. Key criteria like real-world range, charging times (AC and DC), charging costs, charge solutions, performance are all covered. Motor insurance and bidirectional charging are also mentioned.
